what did they do? or didn't do?

I asked them to retro-fit 3 pairs with commando soles - a pair of #8 LWBs, a pair of Chromexcel Chukkas (from LS) and a pair of #8 cap toe boots (from Alden SF). I wanted all of them to have the contrasting welt and edge trim. The LWBs came with natural welt and black edge trim (not a good look); the Chukkas came back with black welting and edge trim (also not what I wanted).

They've had them for 2 months and they're backed up - I called to check on the status and I'm sure that prompted someone to hustle to get them done. Very frustrating - I'm sure they will fix the problem but it's a pain.

Also I'm thinking about selling both my Jcrew Alden make-ups, so if anyone in here is interested, please shoot me a PM. :)
Both are a 10D on the Barrie last. The Longwings are brand new and the #8 captoe boots have only been worn once.

I'd think these'll be great in the Fall/Winter - unless you're looking for something Seatle-ish with the waterloc or commando soles?

Grant last is definitely growing on me. Here's my humble family portrait. Cigar captoe boot on grant last is on the left. All others are on the barrie last.

Nice shines, lagsun -- good job!

I would be on board for a cigar shortwing on the Grant, although I'd much rather do a blucher than a boot, especially if Mike at Epaulet is already getting a cigar shortwing boot on the Barrie in October.

I dislike the Barrie's shape on bluchers, but it looks terrific on boots; I have the Ravello version of that boot that everyone loves, and it's fabulous. The difference in shape would be more noticeable, IMO, if we did a blucher. Antiqued edgetrim, of course.

My first Aldens. I've been waiting for a long time.

FYI, Alden does not have a longing boot pattern available.

Sorry for my ignorance, but by "long wing boot" do you mean the detailed stitching goes around the heel like it does in a shoe?

I would jump all over a pair of cigar wing tip boots with commando sole. And I would prefer the detail to go all the way around rather than the smooth heel most Alden wing tip boots seem to have.

Question to those with dark #8s: How long did it take for the shoes to lighten up to a burgundy hue?

Here's what I wore today: natural chromexcel Indy oxfords.

would you consider the alden cordovan #8 to be a dress boot?

I consider my cap toe #8s to be dress boots. I'm planning to wear that to my interview on Wednesday. Well that, or my burgundy calf short wing boots.
