AoM got in a few nice Indy models. Here are my 40508HC. I’ve owned a few Indy models in cordovan but nice to have this one with the 270 welt, dark edges

These are very cool. I think they also restocked their color 8 Indy on neocork, too, which is also a strong contender for best indy makeup. Brogue has a version of the above with double leather soles; if one of you would please buy my size out and put me out of my misery. They're very nice. I've been after an extremely elusive makeup: color 8 indys on 365 double leather soles, but the Brogue ones come closest to that. Maybe I should just go pull the trigger...

Is there anything you can attribute to the changing sizes? Sounds bizarre. I could perhaps see in the past that lasts could diminish in size with extended use over an extended period of time but such issues should be considered by now...and I'd guess they're probably not using old lasts.

I do not know what the size variation is attributable to, but I know it didnt used to be so great from makeup to makeup. A little difference around the edges is to be expected with these things, but I had to pass on two very special makeups this year-Brogue C8 LWBs on antique leathers, and the gorgeous Leffot Tanker on neocork. The tankers I could barely squeeze my feet into at all, they must have been the smallest 8D I on Barrie I have ever tried.

The LWBs felt a full width narrower than marked; they would have been perfect in an 8E, but Brogue didnt have that width and rarely do on special makeups. I went the SAME DAY to AoSF and tried on the standard 975s in 8D and they were perfect. There should be no reason for such a delta between what are fundamentally the same shoe in the same size.

I did talk to Mac once, who posited that the time of year shoes are made can contribute to sizing variation; perhaps the lasts shrink or enlarge a bit with the temp/humidity, or the ability pull/shape leather over the last itself is affected instead. Dunno.

Plain toe boots on commando for Cigar Shell Sunday. These have more variation in the shell than the other two cigars I have, but it goes well with the style of boot.

I've seen this boot many times in person and they're gorgeous! Mack has my size down for the next time they get approved by the factory for a run. If I were you, I'd buy them now rather than wait a year or two for them to be re-released (and with a price increase).

Anyone have a pair of Rancourt ranger mocs and can tell me how the sizing is like compared to the Alden lined LHS sizing?

Cheers!

Good grief, go for a quick ride on some trails and around the city, come back to 47 unread posts. Had a hunch it was either some great new rare’s were just released or a catfight. While I admittingly have strong feelings about Aldens ‘rare shoe’ approach (and yes, we should stop using rare as they really are easy to get), I refrained from jumping in when that conversation was being held. But I will wade gingerly into this discussion even though I am kind of on both sides of the fence.

While my tolerance for imperfection is likely higher that most on this site, I still don’t think Alden has QC issues that you won’t find anywhere else. Go to the EG forum, you will see the same complaints. And don’t get me started on the Viberg forum. Geez, those guys take complaining to an entirely new level. And neither Viberg nor EG have more QC issues than Alden (EG admittingly has less but at 50% more, they should). In all the footwear I have purchased from Alden, I have had one, two at most, that prompted me to return them. Mr. Soz’e must have exceptionally bad luck with Alden. I would avoid black cats and walking under ladders if I were him.

However, it does annoy me when someone drops a comma on footwear, expresses a reasonable complaint, and the usual suspects (pun intended) leap to Alden’s defense as though they have a personal financial stake in the company (for the record, I do not believe @JTMD was doing that). You can love Alden (as I obviously do) and still recognize that they are far from perfect.
Thanks Shawn - I just emailed AOM trying to get them to put my dream rare shell makeup together. This is my new mission!!!! Not sure if you watch NFL, nice to see Mr. Fields get a win..I'm rooting for him - he had a tough stay in Chicago - I think he'll flourish in the Burg

I have their Ranger mocs. They fit true to size to my Brannock, and they’ve been great from day 1. I wear the LHS 1/2 size down from Brannock. I’m not sure this is the best comparison, since the LHS is known to be a challenging fit. It may not be as consistent of a comparison. But for me, Brannock TTS has been great for the Rangers.

You have more leeway with a laced shoe, but with Rancourt’s size and width limitations in my range — something you may not have to deal with — i take the same size in both.

This. While not Rancourt, both of these are 8.5D’s on Van. The Moc’s have far more room. They can be worn with thicker socks. Only thin socks for the LHS’s.
