Hi Gents -

Thinking about my next boot purchase. I’m torn between 403 Indys and Color 8 PTBs. I know I know, the right answer is both :)

I have only two boots now but I’m selling both due to sizing issues - suede Chukkas and another 403. Love my 403 so it’s an easy choice getting another pair, in the right size. But a friend is selling a pair of PTBs in great condition and I thought they could be as versatile as Indys, maybe more?

Any thoughts? I wear mostly khakis, navy and dark green chinos, flannels, white deck pants. I’m thinking both would work well but adding different messages to the outfit - the Indys more casual and workwear style, shell PTBs more military and slightly dressed up?

thanks!
With the prices of shell these days, I would seriously consider the Color 8's if your friend is offering them up for a great price. And by PTB do you mean Plain Toe Boot or Plain Toe Blucher?

Your pants rotation would really go well with Color 8. Curious what last the Color 8 is on? That also helps dictate the flexibility of the shoes/boots as some lasts are more formal than others.

Good points. It’s the Plain Toe Boot in color 8 and the Modified last. It’s the best fitting last for me and it look great in boots. I guess a bit sleeker / more formal than True Balance.

But yeah, I can get 403s any time. Probably best to jump on the shell boots. The price is fair indeed.

I'd go shell every time..🤪

Seriously though..my PTBs go great with pretty much everything below a suit. Before buying them I thought they might be a tad too plain...but nope...they really are a great shoe for just tossing on and heading out without worry. Oh.. I was in the Army and they don't remind me at all of the military.

That being said..I don't own Indy’s as they've never been available in my area and I've found other goodies on ebay or when traveling elsewhere. But when I do finally get a pair...they'll be in shell 😁

Thanks. Yeah I love shell and it’s hard to resist a pair in my size and fairly priced.

I used to find PTBs too plain, especially compared to moc toes, split toes or brogue cap toes. But seeing worn examples changed my mind. Shell PTBs in particular look great once the rolls start appearing.

Anyone know of a retailer that has a plain toe suede boot on the trubalance last? I have searched far and wide with no luck. Closest I have found is a suede indy which is very appealing but would prefer the simplicity of a plain toe!

Leffot's Villager Boot. Its awesome.

They also have it in color 8, which is even more awesome.

Not a lot of sizes left in either, though.

Does it need to be suede or can it be Nubuck/Chamois? Few more make-ups available if the material is negotiable.
