Good Morning, can the fine gents here please assist in determining if these shoes are in fact genuine pebble grain shell cordovan leather? Full disclosure, I am the seller and an interested party insists that this model, "2169", is not shell cordovan. Thank you all in advance.

The Alden Model Project site states they are shell on several prior listings. One of those listings appears to be yours, but it is also mentioned on a few listings that do not appear to be yours. For my 2 cents, they do appear to be scotch grain shell. As you likely know, shell is not frequently embossed, but I have seen it in several different patterns and this appears to be one of those cases.

The interested party does not consider Alden model project to be a valid reference (or similar models such as the 2168, the same shoe in color 8 scotch grain shell), so that's why I am reaching out. Seems like they’re trying to score some rare shell at a calf price…I don’t know that I’d bother too much. They may never be satisfied with what you provide as evidence.

That’s my take as well. The buyer strikes me as dishonest. Be careful.

Add my voice to the chorus on this as I have been eyeing these up on the Bay for quite some time and to my eye, those are absolutely pebble shell.

I've had a few pair of Alden's, but never any in Chromexcel. These are only four months old, and get worn 3-4 times a week. It don't mind creases, but this looks like something different. I've put VSC on them once, and after a day of walking they looked just like this again. I can honestly say, the leather on these look worse after 4 months than anything I've ever had regardless of price. Thoughts?

It's called the Chromexcel lottery for a reason. I have seen a lot worse to be honest -- when the grain is so loose that the micro creases have a lot of space between them. Yours are at least relatively tight. Wear as a casual shoe and embrace it.
