'The Vintage Indy' from Leather Soul, Hawaii. Trying out the Trickers laces in Ecru which I like more than the flat waxed laces from Alden. I can't keep the flat laces straight and I can't look at them twisted !!

The long lost Alden cap toe boots are finally back after their 8 month travels to California. I'm so happy to get them off in the mail today to Wyatt and Dad cobblers to get the work done.

On a different note, I am preparing for a 10 day cruise and I wanted several shirts for "formal" night. I can't really justify buying multiple tuxedo shirts to accommodate studs for the buttons, so I modified several of my current dress shirts to use either existing buttons OR the tuxedo studs. If some of you wish to know how to do this change, let me know and I will post it in a spoiler.

Random question.
What would you consider your “Unobtainum” of Alden shell cordovan colours?
Mine are #2, #4, and Amaretto.

At this stage, unobtanuim shell list looks like :
Whiskey, C2, C4, Mahogany, Cigar, Old Bronze (even blue, green if they were ever made or can be made).....all Indys !!
US13E makes it difficult even in the rarely worn / LNIB / BNIB market.

Tell me about it. Never mind the rare shell, i‘d be happy to have a pair of 13E Brooks Bros unlined shell LHS in color 8 or black.

Curious what people's experience with Alden restoring rare shell shoes are like? Do they also redye the uppers or refinish them in anyway that changes it's color?

I am a huge fan of Alden’s recrafting service but the two rare shells I’ve sent back (whiskey & C4) were both returned with less-than-desirable results. For me, I can’t imagine I’ll ever do it with footwear acquired as new. Seems like a roll of the dice.

Basics for me on this dreary day in the Burg. Tom-lasted 8’s from Mack and the boys at Brogue……..
