I got my suede dovers back from the shoemaker with new soles! They now have a Vibram heel and JR-sole. Stiching seems to be done the same as it was, but colored brown. Overall I'm very impressed, I was worried of losing the nice slim side profile with a chunky sole, but this one is just right.

They also feel good on the feet. Maybe a bit tighter than before, but they now need to be worn in again. The sole is not as flexible as the flexsole from Alden, but not too stiff either.

This was done by a local cobbler, who has done Alden's in the past too.

Can anyone here reco a cobbler to resole a pair of Indys? Looking to convert a pair from 360 reverse welt on crepe (🤮) to 270 storm welt on neocork. Hopefully Chicagoland based, but willing to ship the boots if it comes to that. Feel free to DM me

I’ve probably used Alden’s restoration service more than most and I have always been thrilled with their quality and service. If you aren’t looking for customization and are willing to wait, it is a really good value. Not sure about horror stories but that certainly has never been my experience.

I've also heard horror stories about sending your boots back for any kind of service

Not my experience. I sent back a 10+ year old pair of rare shell and asked that they restore them, but not affect the patina. They did everything I asked and nothing that I didn't. It was a good service.

It is a NST Friday and boots are always appropriate.
