This is probably true. Obviously once you see it it's hard to unsee but it got by Jim at SF, me and 3-4 other people I sent pictures to yesterday until eagle-eyed @JSO1 spotted it :-D

We’d better talk to Jim. He sold me two different shades of ravello chukkas. ?

Getting tired of wearing pajamas/shorts and slippers every damn day, so decided to take these Cigar WTB out of the box and wear them during the second half of the work day. Of course boots this nice deserve to be worn with decent pair of pants, so changed out of PJs. Paired with Kreis cayman tail belt. The darker color on the ridges match the Cigar shell while the rest of the belt picks up welt and edge color.

Having retired prior to COVID, I haven't had the opportunity to WFH during the past couple of years. Did WFH once in the early 20teens, due to an "issue" at the office with some noxious chemicals in the suite next door, something to do with glue and flooring. I got dressed in a suit/tie and worked from home, figured I'd be wearing that outfit if I went in, so should wear it while in home office. Of course, I wore Aldens :) Hope everyone is having a great week!!!

Today we have a maiden voyage of some Color 8 shell cordovan chukkas. This is my first pair of Alden shell and as soon as I took these out of the box, I immediately understood what all the fuss was about. They are really something special. I used to have a pair of Allen Edmonds Dundee chukkas in brown shell and they were extremely versatile and comfortable. These seem a lot more substantial than the Dundees. I don't know if the Aldens really are more substantial, or if that's just my subjective impression, but they sure feel like it.

The overall impression is that this is one heck of a shoe that will undoubtedly be worn very often.

They look awesome! I think the classic Alden chukka in shell cordovan is so very underrated. I grabbed a pair in black, and they quickly shot to the top of my favourites list.

Does anyone have any insights on a fix for skinny heels that keep slipping in loafers. I find 8.5d fits everywhere but the heel, going down to a 8e is too small for my foot bed. Whether it is aberdeen or other lasts, I cant seem to figure it out. Using the tongue pads were really uncomfortable, I also had the heel sticky pads and still does not work. I am now at a thin insole and the heel sticky pads, but there is still slippage. The 8.5d fits everywhere else and the 8e is just too tight plus some slippage.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sometimes it’s just a break in thing. Loafers are not oxfords, they’re for loafing. But they should mold better once you’ve got some miles in them. I can’t tell you how many loafers I’ve had that slipped for quite some time before they finally gave in and stopped slipping. Can also try a thicker sock.

I'm having heel slip problems in almost all my shoes and find that it tends to get better with break-in. I can't find the post at the moment, but on Reddit's GYW there was someone attaching a really thick piece of CXL to the heel of I think Viberg loafers. I have the same problems with tongue pads and was planning to ask my cobbler about such improvised heel leather inlays.

Edit: Found it! It was slippers, not loafers, and the pads can be seen here:

oh thats interesting, I was thinking of cutting a heel pad in half and putting it on either side to narrow the rear. This is mostly on my 8.5 Color 8 BB Tassel Loafers. Do you cordovan would also break in as much?

Mine do. I have the feeling that its a footbed, rather than a heel stiffener-process. Interested to hear what the specialists think.

Have you tried wearing a size 9C or 9.5B width ?
