I don't how many here also frequent the AE thread, but it was just announced that there will be a shell trunk show thing in September. They are going to have, in addition to other things, 2 shell SNEAKERS. IMHO, AE has tanked.

Fair enough! I still held out hope during both LBO's, as AE was my intro into GYW footwear in the early 1990's, but now...sneakers? In Shell?

Epaulet did some of these, pretty sure @mdubs among several others here have a pair. They looked really good. I wouldn't write them off just yet.

Are you saying sneakers should not be made from shell? Or that AE should not make shell sneakers?

AE shouldn't make sneakers, shell or not. Plus, sneakers should not be shell, as then they are not sneakers, but sneaker looking shell shoes.

It's only my opinion, and worth not a heck of a lot, but sneakers shouldn't be made from shell, as then they are not sneakers, but shell shoes that look like sneakers, which just seems odd to me.

Yes, retractable is cool and a plus for any footwear, run a marathon in AE shell sneakers, play tennis? I think I've opened the "shell sneaker yea or nay" can of worms.

The first time EP tried to make them, the manufacturer or tannery (I forget which) they were using was trying to pass chrome tanned steer as shell. Once they were actually able to procure real shell the price was considerably higher, as it should be. EP did right by their customers. I was one on the original order and they gave us each the option to back out once they discovered the issue, discounted the product, and gave us a coupon. I still have that pair, although they are beaten to hell. I also have the first run of of natural horses. Those have aged really nicely.
