Question for everyone...

What Alden shoes do you pack for a 1 week European vacation? I’m going to Spain in a couple of weeks. So I will need a pair comfortable for walking and a pair that can work in nicer restaurants, bars, etc. Weather should be temperate. I usually bring color 8 chukkaa for this kind of scenario given the versatility. Any other thoughts?

These really are some cool boots.

Cross-posted from AE thread:

Little did I think, a year ago, that I would have acquired so many shoes and boots in such a short period of time. In fact, a year ago, I'm not sure I thought I'd acquire any more shoes and boots than I already had.

You see, up until about a year and a half ago, I had a very small collection of footwear: two pair of dress shoes, a pair of loafers, a pair of boots, a pair of driving moccasins, and three pair of New Balance 928s (and some other odds and ends that never got worn outside of the house or the back yard). My usual outfit back then was jeans and sneakers, with a polo in the warmer weather, and a flannel shirt in the colder weather.

The I joined Styleforum.

Now I have a small army of shoes and boots, pretty much all of them acquired since joining this forum, a year ago today.

And so, this is my first annual "State of the Collection" post, with a picture of the collection as of this morning:

Not pictured (because they haven't arrived yet):

AE Brown Tumbled Leather Tupelo
Alden x B+M Snuff Suede "Marvaments" Straight Tip Boot

Alden x Sherman Brothers Earth Chamois Indy Boot

NOTE: Before I joined Styleforum, I had three of the shoes/boots pictured above: the Alden 994s, the AE Higgins Mills, and the AE Boulders. All of the others have been acquired in the past year.

Next year, I'll probably have to break the collection up into multiple pictures. Or get a taller ladder...

Funny how buying a pair or two just draws you in. I've often said that Alden owes SF a debt of gratitude for expanding their customer base. What's also remarkable about your collection is how much diversity you have. When I got the bug, it was all Alden. You have acquired some exceptional pieces across the manufacturing spectrum. Well done.

Thanks for your help

Since everyone else is yanking your chain... there is no Alden "specialist" on eBay like dabondo1 is for Allen Edmonds. I would imagine StyleForum's own styleforum*namor is the close to, if not, the highest volume seller of Alden on eBay, but his current stock of 91 pairs of Aldens pales in comparison to dabondo1's curent stock of 2,365 pairs of AEs.

If you're looking for a dabondo1 of sorts, get on The Shoe Mart's seconds list. But they don't have that many either. Mostly because Alden just doesn't produce the kind of volume that AE does.

Thank you for this reply. It was only one person that was yanking my chain. I’m over it. I figured for a boot like this spending the retail price and being able to try them on and exchange for size was well worth the extra cash! Jim at eadlwine was incredibly nice and patient with me on the phone.

Anyone here an 11.5 B in trubalance? I might need to sell a pair or two.
