Took the long way to the park, but it also proved to be a shortcut to patina-ville.

I'd go with Barrie sizing, but if you have a high instep and need Barrie's bike you might not like them.I'm planning to buy a pair of Alden LHS loafers (on the Van last), and it seems that there are two camps on how to size them:
Get the same size as you wear in the Barrie last
Get your usual size
I wear 9.5 E in almost everything except my Alden 994s (my only Aldens so far), which are on the Barrie last. I was fitted in a 9 C/E where I bought them when I lived in New York, and they fit perfectly in this size.
I don't live anywhere near a store that sells Alden shoes any more (the closest is probably Leffot in Chicago, which is ~300 miles from here), so it's not convenient to actually go get fitted in person, so I'm looking for your advice: should I order the same size as my Barrie fitting or go with my normal size?
Thanks!
The TB last is said to be generally 1/2 size down from your actual Brannock size. Does that mean toe to heel or ball to heal measurement?
Thanks - I'm not sure what you mean by "Barrie's bike", but I've got an average instep, and the shop didn't suggest the Barrie last to me; I went there looking for a pair of 994s and they fitted me for them.I'd go with Barrie sizing, but if you have a high instep and need Barrie's bike you might not like them.
Really like the look of the straight lacing on those 994s; I'll have to try that.Happy Easter gang.

Thanks autocorrect! Barrie's volume was the intended wording. Thanks - I'm not sure what you mean by "Barrie's bike", but I've got an average instep, and the shop didn't suggest the Barrie last to me; I went there looking for a pair of 994s and they fitted me for them.
LOL! And here I thought "bike" was some kind of esoteric shoe term that I'd never heard before. Thanks autocorrect! Barrie's volume was the intended wording.
Thanks, Mike - the store I'm planning to buy them from has a reasonable exchange policy, so I think I'll order them in my Barrie size and see how they work.Woof, the traditional advice for the Van is to go with your Barrie size. The LHS tends to be harder to fit however due to the fit across the top (vamp).
