Neocork with that 270 welt is my favorite. I’ve had two Indy’s on commando and I prefer neocork. Then again, I don’t walk in snow... ever.

Commando is better in snow, and I do walk in snow. But the neocork is a more comfy sole to me.

anyone here size their boots differently? I'm somewhat in between sizes on the barrie between a 6d and 6e (no boots.. yet). Was mentioning this with Mack over at Brogue because I'm considering getting their cognac tankers possibly in the 6e size they have, but he actually said if I am a 6E in my shoes/lace-ups, then in the boots I should probably be a 6.5D. anyone do this as well between their boots and shoes?

Yes, I size up a 1/2 size in Barrie boots compared to shoes. I'm a 10.5D in shoes on the Barrie last, but 11D in boots are a better fit for me.

Fellow Aldenites, I'm attempting to appreciate certain designs more. One in particular are plain toe. My usually simple mind thinks they are too...simple? Is that the beauty of them? Even in the Alden store, looking at all manner of material with plain toe, I couldn't get behind them. Plain toe boots as well. I'm coming with an open mind, educate me (I'm also fully aware they may never fit my eye, but I overcame my loafer distaste and now absolutely love them)

For me, plain toe boots, due to their simplicity, are beautiful. The boot, not perfing or caps have to speak for themselves. I don't think they are "dressy", but rather utilitarian in their appearance, and that is the appeal for me. Just a boot being a boot.

The plain toes are the only Alden boots I am not too big a fan of. Just like things better with at least a cap toe if not more.

Which is why they make different models. I like cap toes as well, for what it's worth. Oh Hell, I just like boots!

Mostly for the width. I think the extra length is more forgiving in boots than shoes. I have also worn an 11c in Barrie lasted shoes and the fit is alright, but feels just a tad long.

Just bought a pair of shell alden indys in the same size as my 403's, but the shell ones feel tighter, should I have sized up on the shell indy's or is this normal since I have not broken in the shell's as opposed to the cxl 403's that I have worn for a year now.

If anything, shell will generally be lasted slightly looser than CXL since it has a tendency to tear if pulled too tightly. I imagine the CXL pair being broken in is part of it but I've noticed minor sizing variation in two pairs on the same last in the same size, which is bound to happen in a pair of handmade shoes. The footbed will break in some on the shell indys over time but shell won't really stretch like CXL will. If they're too tight you may need to go up a size in length or width.
