Good question asked earlier. What was your first pair of Aldens? Mine were the Brooks unlined shell loafers (RIP). I didn't know that Alden made them, and I didn't even know what shell cordovan leather was. I just liked the look.

Edit: I am dating myself, but the price was about $80.

Quick cleaning question: what is the best method to clean snuff suede? I have snuff suede Indy's that have a smudge on the toe. Many thanks in advance.

I’ve been using this and it has worked fine:
https://www.hangerproject.com/saphir-omninettoyant.html

But when I talked to a cobbler some time ago he said this was just as good, but cheaper:
https://www.amazon.com/Saphir-Omnidaim-Suede-Cleaner-Bottle/dp/B002NOPJ9S
Haven’t tried it yet, though.

And don’t be afraid to use quite a bit of water, check around 1:30 in this video (which is in Swedish, no affiliation):

I would probably make sure a little less water ends up inside the shoe when rinsing, though. :) Actually, I would use a wet brush rather than rinsing the shoes under running water to get the shampoo off.

And since it’s in Swedish: The shoes dry overnight before they’re brushed, so from 3:57 into the video it’s actually the next day.
(I usually don’t use pigmented spray.)

Going up north with the family for the last ski weekend of the year and only bringing one pair of boots.

I've got both, and they seem sorta similar. I think Omnidaim is intended for spot-cleaning where the Netto-whatever is more for full-shoe shampoo. Both work well. I've heard folks say if you can get a no-fragrance/color coconut-oil shampoo (a Whole Foods kind of thing) you can use it the same way.

Having gone through the process, it's scary the first time but works well.

I have used the Saphir products and they work well. Do you spray your suede with something like Nano Spray? I have found that really helps to keep smudges off.

My first pair was the 975 boats. I still have them. Paid around $350 pre-owned on eBay.

I believe my first pair was 975, sized 10D, acquired at Leffot.

Second pair was I believe a tan suede PTB bought at J Crew.

Amazingly, I think my next few pairs included ravello tassel loafers from Leffot, cigar captoe boots from Alden DC, and whiskey chukkas from Alden Madison. These were all bought by either walking into a store and buying off the shelf or just calling and ordering from available stock. No preorder, no waitlists, etc.

TSM has just received a shipment of seconds. From the email:

Q: Why are you increasing prices?

A: Alden has increased our costs on Factory Seconds.

Alden Factory Seconds have not had a price increase in the past 4 years despite regular increases on First Quality Alden goods.

Q: When will the new Alden Factory Seconds be available?

A: This is a HUGE shipment, more than we have ever received at once before. Because of this, we will be releasing new Factory Seconds in waves over the next 2 weeks.

We will send an announcement as these shoes are made available for sale!

Q: What will the new prices be?

A: Most Calfskin styles at $399.95.

Most Shell Cordovan styles at $509.95.
