They look really good. I’d use Venetian shoe cream.

They are not straight cotton. I just now compared them to the AE waxed laced and I really could not discern any real difference. The amount of wax seems to be the same on both. I went with these because I wanted blue and AE only makes blue in 30 inch. The six eyelet really needs 34-35, depending on how close your gap is when the boot is on your foot. 30 inch will simply not cut it for me. The Toucan Laces are 35, and make a good replacement for the 34 inch flat lace that came from Alden. The 48 inch AE laces work well for the regular sized Indy boot.

For some reason, I wouldn't be surprised if same lace company made them for both Toucan and AE. Thanks, ordering some this afternoon.

I think that’s why I like them, I must be getting old.

I like dainite less and less over time. It isn't a comfort/soft sole. It isn't particularly great for traction, either. I was wearing a dainite pair on wet-ish grass then walked on to Saltillo tile on my back patio. If you've ever experienced a pair of shoes with suicide heels, I think this wet dainite/Saltillo combo was worse!

Hope you didn't fall! Dainite may be a long wearing sole material, but traction is non-existent, and comfort isn't great either, in my opinion. For a compact rubber sole, I much prefer Alden Commando or Grant Stone rubber sole. However if one needs traction, full on Lug sole rules.

I didn't fall, but the loss of traction definitely took me by surprise!
