I would not recommend changing size because of material.
I recently made this mistake twice (with shell cordovan and with Chromexcel). Money lost. Lesson learned. Once the boot broke in, I realized my mistake.

Just stick an insole in there and you're good to go.
Interesting, I don't change size on the last for essentially any reason.

Do you change size on last going from blucher to chukkas or boots? The flat welt J Crew PCT boots are too tight across the vamp for me in 7.5D. Whereas PTB, LWB, and Dover fit well. The J Crew recent NST boots seems to fit slightly tighter than the blucher, but not as tight as the PCT, which has a flat welt and all the other ones are reverse.
Ah the good old Jcrew PCT boot sizing quandary...
