    Hi,

Can someone recommend the size of the Cordovan captoe boot on the Grant last that is available at shoemart? I am a 10.5 B on the brannock device but usually wear 9.5 D. Recently tried my first Alden boot on the Barrie last. 9D was short in length and 9.5D felt roomy on my smaller foot. I think 9.5D should be my size on this boot but should I also 10D to be safe? Hesitant to order two sizes because apparently shoemart doesn't accept returns if the cordovan leather is creased during trying of shoes.

Give Kathy at Alden DC a call (202-347-2308). I believe she also offers a Grant last cap-toe boot, and she may be able to accommodate a narrower width. If you can't get 10.5B, then I'd suggest 10C. 9.5D would be a last resort, as it will likely be too short for you. 10D will probably be too wide.

Thank you. I will call her tomorrow. I wear 9.5 D on the 82 last in EG and 9.5 D on the First Avenue boots in Allen Edmonds. Do you still think 9.5 D will be too short on this boot?

where do you live? I'd definitely make the trip somewhere to try on some narrower widths. It is worth the wait to get an optimal fit.

Try 10C, Alden doesn't offer the Grant in B widths.

Alden doesn't have the B widths on the Grant Last... I know, I have inquired about a 10.5B before...

    Gentlemen,

I recently purchased a pair of used Alden 975s, and there's a small cut at the back seam of one the shoes. It's not a huge deal, especially considering I paid less than half the retail price for them, but is there anything that can be done for this?

I got a pair of seconds like that. Not too big of a deal. That's pretty well hidden. Mine hasn't grown at all, so you should be okay... About all you can do is put some paste wax on it to add pigment to the edges. -Mike

Those shoes collections from @Mdubs and @MrDv are incredible.
I would like to find a pair of ravello shell cordovan (long-wing blutcher) but after visiting almost all the shoes shops in Tokyo, l couldn't find any. Only #8 and black colors are available here (even for brands other than alden). And the Lakota store employees told me that if I ordered, I might get shoes after two or three years, but they can't even guarantee this delay.
    Do you have any tips?
    Thank you.

Besides TSM, does anybody else sell seconds? I signed up for the TSM email alerts, but the selection is always pretty slim. I think the slim pickings may be because of my shoe size (11.5).

You may want to check eBay and the listings in the FS section here.

Thanks for the advice, the thing is, I really wanna try the shoes before buying and also see the real color, as from what I understood, the same color name can actually cover many different variations.

Welcome to the thread, I have filtered through a lot of pairs to get where I am at now. Unfortunately, the factory gets shipments from Horween periodically and no batch is identical. Even if ordering from a retailer, there is no color guarantee.

Best is to buy shoes from eBay with decent pictures once you get your sizing across the lasts locked down. Best thing you can do to prepare is to determine your absolute best fit on the Alden lasts.

She better love it; it's going to affect my shoe budget! [IMG]
Thanks for the kind words your mayorness...

    Many thanks brotha...

If @mdubs is mayor of Aldenville, @MrDV should be city councilman.

Thank you and good luck acquiring the ravello wtip boot. I would highly recommend buying the color 8 version; I wear that more often and it is just as awesome! [IMG]
