The JCrew one may say JCrew on the inside. Besides that, as long as you get their Shell Cordovan makeup, they are identical...

Thanks very much! Also, since this is my first time posting here despite following for a couple years, I wanted to say great work on the new thread, Mike! I've always enjoyed your website, and it's great to see that information here too.

So does anyone have a good explanation of the flex sole? I noticed that the loafers I'm looking at have those, but I'm torn because I'm considering a tassel moc as my next shoe.

That's a stylistic thing I'm going on in my head, but if a shoe is more comfortable I will lean towards that. I think the suede penny loafer is quite handsome but that moc gives it a little flair...BUT style vs comfort is what we are getting at here.

The Flex Sole is a single leather outsole that they soak in oil, giving it two desirable properties; flexibility and water resistance. It is a pride softer than the standard sole and will wear down slightly quicker.

It's a tad more comfy from day 1, but once the leather soles break in, they will be essentially equally comfy.

Get what you want based upon the design, not the sole... :)

Knowing me in person you'd know how indecisive I am lol. :) Thanks for the clarification.

A defect I noticed on my shell cordovans while getting some scuffs out. I think I noticed it before but I didn't put too much thought into it when buying them.

Notice this shoe has slightly bad stitching where the stitching of the welt ends and begins. I've had these for a month and didn't notice them, or maybe I hit something. I really don't know!

Luckily a defect like this wouldn't impact the structural integrity of the shoe but nevertheless it's a defect. Fortunately for me it being a slightly worn shoe I got 30% off the shoes. Had I'd paid full price I would have returned these.

Anyone find they needed to go down a full size on the BB unlined LHS? mdubs' sizing guide (and Alden of Carmel sizing guide) suggest the Van last runs about a half size big, but I'm getting an unacceptable amount of heel slippage at sizing down .5 from my Brannock. My local BB doesn't have my approximate sizes in stock so I'm waiting on a transfer to try them out, but I really want to make these work.

Honestly, that is pretty standard for Alden. Nothing out of the ordinary on first quality shoes.
