1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Hi all. I just picked up the Alden x J. Crew PCT boots in color 8. Overall the QC is pretty good and the shoes look stunning. BUT there are a couple of things that bother me:

    1) Both heel counters are kind of rough - (heavily edited) pic. I tried brushing but that only highlighted the marks.

    2) There's something shiny on the left vamp, almost like glitter. I thought I wouldn't care about it but it's extremely reflective and is beginning to bothering me. I realized my Alden longwings have this same glitter-like thing in almost exactly the same place. I tried using VSC on the calf longwings but the shiny spot remained. Anyone have an idea about how to remove this?

I will probably end up keeping the boots because in general they look awesome and these things shouldn't warrant a return/exchange. But that glittery thing is annoying.

    Gentlemen,

Do you prefer the cigar chukka or ptb? Also, do you think having both is redundant? Thanks.

Have both. Not redundant at all. One is a boot, the other a shoe.

    2. I had the exact same thing on my shell #8 PTBs, one or two spots on the shoes that looked just like glitter. They were barely noticeable even when looking for them though, so I just decided to keep them. I wonder what it's from though.

After much success this year with wide sizes (10EEE on modified, 9.5EE on Van), I've decided to focus on wide sizes going forward. I can do 10E in Plaza, Hampton and Grant, and I will likely keep my 10E whiskey monks forever, but I plan on subbing everything else out for wider sizes (EE and EEE). Edward Green says I am a 10F in US sizing, so that's what I'm going with. I have a 10EE cigar NST on preorder that I'm eagerly awaiting, and I just ordered the 403 in 9.5EE from Alden NYC. Eventually I hope to rebuild my entire Alden collection. I'll chronicle it along the way.

Thanks but its not pure brown. It has shade of Burgundy in it, which is why i was wondering if there is a guide to decode Alden numbers that will help me find the exact shoe.

It is brown CXL. That does have some burgundy shades, but Alden doesn't do Burgundy (color 8) CXL models. I think he's almost certainly given you all the correct specs, in which case you will find many retailers carrying that model.

    Anatomica Paris.
Good collection of black and color 8 shell boots and shoes.
Really worth visiting when in Paris and meeting Pierre and Charles.
The two of them are very convincing about the modified last.

You can email general@aldenshoe.com if you want the "official" info. But it's Brown CXL. Alden does not use Burgundy CXL.

These are the one pair of Alden's I thought I would like the least...and end up wearing the most (with denim). They are perfect for casual streetwear and look better the more you rough them up.
