    very nice collection sir. the cigar lwb color is special.
    very nice color. how old are those? i only ask because i tried sf cigar chukkas once, but came out too dark.
    i feel the laces are too long, i wrap around to shorten the loops.
    WINNING!!!!
    I started by buying allen edmonds shell before aldens. they were more affordable and much easier to get. i eventually tried on aldens and made the switch. i have since sold all my aes including 4 shell cordovan models, i lost a few dollars in that transition. if i were you, i would wait for cigar lwbs or chukkas to become available (call every retailer and get your name on the lists). cigar plain toe boots are extremely rare.
    thanks dubs.
    thank you. yes x alden madison via tsm seconds list.
    listen to your lady, go get some. i have been looking for snuff indy on crepe, commando, or brick for a few months now. i didn't want to pay retail, and got lucky w these last week.
    brick sole makes them very light compared to other alden boots i own, super comfortable, and quiet on wood floors. i've only worn them once and will likely never see rain on my watch.
    holy crap! i didn't know. those look so nice.

    @BenLeaman
    thank you sir. the bison is kinda cool.

    I haven't seen Ravello in person, but it looks like such an amazing color in all of these pictures. Awesome boots, all!

    @reggieandtfe

    I just want to clarify, the only time I would recommend AE over Alden is in the RARE instance of the chukka.

    As MrDv said above, if you want a LWB then Alden has no equal in that price range IMO.

    The Alden Cigar LWB is a classic. Here is mine:

    The Crockett & Jones longwing (Cheviot) gets my vote for a shell longwing with appealing lines.

    I realize it's not Alden, but it sure is clean and well made.

    I totally get that too smooth....I think you would pay dearly for a Cheviot in whiskey....probably 1k...

    Then, in that price range, your opened up to some other LWB options that may trump CJ...

    The other instance is the Strand by AE and I only mention that cuz Alden has no 3/4 brogue oxford in brown cordovan....

    At least not at the moment....

    Have to agree! The Dundee isn't quite as comfortable, and isn't finished quite as well, but I highly recommend it. These are my walnut shell Dundees...

    Agreed @ wigglr. I have two pairs of Indy boots; (Snuff Suede and Ultimate Indy (CXL). My eyelets are even closer when laced up and almost touching at the top. That is due to my skinny ankles :) They fit properly, so no worries.

    The Carmina longwing is awesome as well, and comes in a great shade (cognac, like mahogany, somewhere between ravello and color 8). But it's narrower and pointier than the Alden LWB and not as iconic. But close to the same price with slightly nicer finishing, and comes with free trees. A good substitute for ravello if you're not up for the wait.

    For color 8, nothing tops the 975 though (with black edges of course).

    Something a little bit different... Someone sent me a pair of vintage Alden 986s in Horween #8 Shell Cordovan and asked if I could try to make a card holder out of them. Here is the result. I documented my entire process from deconstruction, burnishing, hand stitching to edge finishing and added a bit of commentary as well. You can find that image album here. Incredibly fun project to do and I'm pleased with the results. Let me know your thoughts!

    I just came back from vacacions and this is what I found:

    - Color 8 wingtip boot plaza last (Leffot)
    - Cigar PTB plaza last (HL)

    I think the plaza last is awesome and I am sorry for the bad quality of the picture :)

    ^ very nice acquisitions, and kind of crazy how dark both cigar and color 8 is now.

    Greetings everyone,
    I have purchased a pair of recently-recrafted Alden 990s. The shoes are in great condition for the fair price I paid, but I was wondering what to do about the damaged/split cuffs on both of the shoes (perhaps caused by the previous owner not using a shoehorn). What can--and should--a cobbler do (to at least prevent it from getting worse)?

    Thanks in advance for any help!
