Congrats Gil on your new WT Boots. Thats a really beautiful pair! If those are from Brick and Mortar, wouldn't those be on the Grant last though? I was on that order and it was initially on the Plaza Last, but got switched to the Grant Last due to some circumstances.

Very nice collection of shoes that you got going there @Alpina ! A nice mix of makeups.

Very nice Color 8 LHSes Chippy. Hope that you are keeping comfy!

Looking stellar Henry! Your Cigar PTBs are looking very nice and have a nice glow to them!

Ha! Very nice Tommy! I have a few more to photograph and then get out. Your new Alt Wieners are looking very nice!

Your new Tankers are looking splendid, hope that you enjoy them in good health!

Congrats Pepper, that is a great makeup and photo! Hope that you enjoy your new special wide 975s.

Looking great Burz! Hope that you have the best of luck deciding!

Don, you are looking great in those lovely Black Shell CT Boots! Looks great with your rad slacks!

    Thanks Tommy!

Again, looking great Chippy! Those Black Shell LHSes are looking rather fine.

The 9016 is a great and classic model! Those look beautiful!

Ha! The 986 is a great classic for a reason! Your pair looks absolutely superb! Hope that you enjoy them today!

I think this was from the run that was originally intended for J.Gilbert before B+M took over their stock.

PSA: Not sure if anyone is interested but Yenni posted a color 8 Dr. Jones variant with antique welt on her upcoming models section. There are a bunch of sizes left for pre-order. I would be on it if it was on double leather.

BB Unlined Jet Black LHS's. Lined version is now nicely tucked away until Fall. These get tons of wear as well and are 3+ years old now.

Perfect indeed and so comfortable already on only the second wear.

I was just talking to her about this model, has something like it been done before? I don't recall ever seeing a plaza indy on antique. Please post some pics.

    Haha you might be right.

I know that Fransboone does the plaza indy on commando with dark edges which is an awesome model in itself. LS did it too but not as frequent as FB. However, none of them have been done with antique edges.

    Thanks Mike,
These are actually a pair of J Gilbert Plaza WTB boots not the latest Grant last boots. They have J Gilbert heel pads and must have been a leftover from the last run. JG old stock must have gone over to B&M when they got out of the Alden game. I passed on the original pre-order so I'm happy to have gotten a second shot at them.

Karnimal, Those are killer! I was thinking about passing on my #8 CT boots to a new home, as they are often passed up for my Cigar CT boots. But, after seeing these think I might keep follow your lead and spice them up a bit. Well done sir.

Quote:Yeah - Yenni has the JGilbert remnants in her shop. A lot of it is on sale at very attractive prices! ($399 on a lot of stuff, might be some less than that - some really cool makeups). Not sure why she doesn't have that stuff listed on her site. On a tangential mini-rant - I don't know what it is with shoe people. There are very few websites that are done well (Unionmade, Leffot and Epaulet) and the rest are generally really terrible in terms of e-commerce. Yenni's site is visually really good, but bad for orders, doesn't show sizes available, can't take an order, etc. AoM's is similar. Alden SF has great information if you know style numbers and are patient enough to wander through their '80's-era website. Citishoes looks like they copied their site over from the Prodigy/AOL days. For what I assume is Alden's single biggest reseller, I find ShoeMart's site kind kludgy (though I just discovered they do seem to have an Alden landing page that is better than their standard 'Mart experience). I know these are small businesses for the most part, but there are some great tools out there... /rant (mainly I'd like to see Yenni be very successful) :)

I wore my new Epaulet Innsbruck cxl Michigan boots, for there first 10 hours yesterday.

Wiped them with damp cloth, let dry and brushed!

They are so comfortable. Words cannot describe it. I'm letting them rest with shoe trees.

I am very particular about clean socks, and clean feet. So , even after 10 hours they still smelled brand new like they were never even worn

    Great boots!

What's a good first pair of Aldens to buy? I have my bases covered with brands from other makers; I would be looking for something that 1) Alden does particularly well, and 2) is versatile enough to wear with suits and with khakis and an open-collar shirt. Any suggestions?

Perhaps the long wing blucher in color 8?

Plain toe blucher in shell cordovan (color numbe 8), longwing blucher (also shell #8) or chocolate suede chucka on flex sole for the versatility you are looking for. Or if going a bit more casual (jeans and khakis) the Indy boot.

Maybe the full strap penny or tassel loafer in color 8 shell.

The PTB, LHS, and LWB are super versatile, but I'm not sure I'd wear them with a suit. Especially for a prosecutor!!

Unlined should be more comfortable, but I don't care in this color. [IMG] 2 years of wear, my favo in summer.

I see we are getting a variety of inputs here, but I would recommend the Norwegian Split Toe (either blucher or boot, based upon your preference) in Color 8 with a Black Edge.

The hand stitched vamp work of Alden is something that makes them special in addition to their beautiful Color 8 Shells.

I believe that the Color 8 NST is a great makeup that with Black edges can go up in formality to a suit (although not a Black or Brown Suit) or can be easily work with khakis.

Although the 975 is an Alden classic, I think that the NST is a little more distinguishable.

You can readily get the Blucher on the Aberdeen Last (2210) or can seek it on other lasts with a little effort (Plaza via B+M and I am sure the Barrie exists as well). Likewise, if you prefer boots, it can be obtained on a variety of lasts as well.

Oh yes, the NST of course! However, our counselor here has extra big dogs (13 EEE), so it may be difficult for him to find opportunities to dial in fit (I can relate, hehe).
