1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

First thing is to find a last that fits him. A store will help a lot there. Some lasts just won't fit certain feet.

Shell models usually fit a little less snug then their normal leather counterparts.

If one is going to do this, one should at least make some purchases. I did this at my local Red Wing store to see if a grailed listing would fit me, and I bought some laces and socks from the guy.

slightly off topic but related, i looked for but could not find an Alden color 8 shell cordovan belt. Shell cordovan is in short supply and probably used mostly for shoes.

However, i found a shell cordovan color 8 belt at an Allen Edmonds store near my office. The shell is a tad lighter in hue than my Alden shoes (a plain toe blucher and a 'leisure handsewn' penny loafer), 3 pieces of shell, leather backing, fairly robust nickel buckle. sewn all the way through, double stitching where the pieces of shell are joined. i'm very pleased with how this belt was finished. made in the US. 2 of the pieces of shell are perfectly smooth, the third has a very slight roughness to it. but for that roughness, it's a steal retailing under $200.

So, 2 pairs of lined 1st quality LHS's in my size, one brand new (black shell), one almost brand new (#8 shell, 986) were temporarily on eBay last night for $375 each, shipped. I say temporarily because they were only on there for about an hour before I bought them. Figured the lined #8 LHS will be better for suits and sock wearing, freeing me up to thrash the BB unlined ones this summer. And the black BB I bought on the corporate discount for $550 are going back, no need for them, since I really only need one pair and lined will be better. So in the course of one week, I've gone from no LHS's to 3, at an average price of $433/each. I'm gonna call this a victory for my feet, and an utter failure for any pretense of a cop-freeze.

I went down a width in the BB model I have. Tried the D and it was not right. Went to a C and it is perfect

Personally, I would let go of the LS UI (don't love cxl enough and the vintage is so much more unique), ironside (reverse chamois wt from B+M is a not an indy lol), and color 8 (tanker is cooler, imo). The 405 could also substitute any of the aforementioned pairs because they're so readily available. Thing is, the 405, as common as they seem to be, are a fantastic boot.

Curious to see what you choose to do! Good luck

    4481's off the irregulars list:

Back in on the shell game after selling my 4060's a few years back...Glad to say I bought another pair of 4060s from TSM which will deliver tomorrow (originally bought the incorrect size from AoM 10 years ago!) bringing me back full circle! Also picking up my 4481's from the cobbler, as I took them in for a rubber half sole. These irregulars are impeccable aside from a minor scratch on the right side boot, which should rub out with deer bone.

    Now...to get #8 Indy's....

I am dying being out of town and having mine sitting at the UPS Store all week! 9am Saturday cannot come soon enough. I promise there will be ample pictures as soon as I pick mine up!

    Joe,
    I would sell 1,2 and 7.
    My reasoning...
    1. Standard 405: I've never really been a fan.
    2. Ultimate Indy w/brass: Strike while the brass eyelet craze is still hot!
    7. Black shell: Prefer black shell on a sleeker last and again current brass craze

You can't however sell those Innsbrucks or I would feel like I led you astray with that purchase.

Which vendor offers the 4481? Is there a name in the heel pad? Are you sure these are 4481 and not 4461?

I'm confused. 4461 is the #8 wingtip boot on Barrie with a storm welt and all eyelets, but are those black? Grant last?

Some digging reveals that 4480 is the #8 wingtip boot with all eyelets on Aberdeen. The typical Alden approach of adding a 1 to the end (or changing the 0 to a 1) would yield 4481, which would suggest these are black shell on Aberdeen. That's the exact makeup I am looking for (all eyelets, Aberdeen, black shell)...

Gotta figure out who makes it. Let me know what's on the heel pad, if anything.
