Ha! Yes, it seemed quite dark when they first arrived, but after just a few wears I am starting the pick up on some burgundy tones. The antique edge helps as well

Fantastic shade Mike! And I, too, like the dark edges on Ravello

    Superb!

I've had boots and shoes in all three (kudu, reverse chamois, CXL) and I think the kudu is far and away the best for resisting the elements, BUT I think the reverse chamois looks much much better both right out of the box and after wearing them for quite sometime.

Another option that wasn't mentioned is the regular (non-reverse) chamois. I have these Ranger Moccs from Need Supply and I wear them constantly. I think they probably are not as weather resistant as the kudu, but look considerably better IMO. I'd put them on par with the reverse chamois with the chamois being ever so slightly less casual (they are both very casual leathers though) but with the reverse chamois aging a little bit nicer. I know I've seen a few other makeups done in the non-reverse chamois as well.

My Kudu Indy's are the full lug sole, not gum light. I think all of the Kudu Indy are the full lug sole.

I acquired some new old stock 990 PTBs from a fellow member.

It has v-cleat heels and lots of nails.

    So many nails:

It has a slightly different logo on the heel pad as well:

The only issue so far is the eyelets. The metal appeared to have some sort of coating on them which has corroded over time.

I scraped off as much as I could, but it's between the lining and shell, so I think I might take them to a cobbler to be replaced.

I don't want to fall and break a hip, nor do I want to scrape up my wooden floors, so I'll probably be having the metal V clean removed and replaced with something: possibly just a wedge of leather/rubber. I don't really want to replace the entire heel lift. I think I'll try them out first, though, just to see what they're like.

I've conditioned then inside and out with Lexol. Once last night and again this morning. I do not want to risk this old shell cracking under pressure.

The date stamp tells us that it was made in a year ending in 8, and I got a response from Alden saying they discontinued the use of the metal cleat in the stock offerings by the 70s, though retailers could request them in a makeup through the mid 90s. So this could be from 68 or older, or possible later via special makeup.

The tongue is also not shell. It appears to be calf, so that could be another indication of the age.

I really like those new boots from TSM. I even went so far as to add them to my cart, enter my billing information, then hesitate. That's when I got the mail from Epaulet about my pre-order alt wein in, and I think these would be too similar, so I aborted.

They really do look great, though, @Don L

@sazon Agreed. Yes, single leather. Plaza is a great last for this makeup.
