I've only had a stranger identify my footwear twice that I remember and one was my Indys. At my gun club, the pro asked, "Are those 'Allden' Indys?" It caught me by surprise, 1) for being completely out of the blue, and 2) pronouncing "Allden". It was the first time I heard someone say that name!

He went on to tell me why they're call Indys and that he'd been wanting a pair. I didn't stop him - he was happy as a lark. I did point him to Shoe Mart and told him they sometimes go on sale.

Glad to run into another Alden fan.
I've only had 2 people notice that I was wearing Indy boots, one was a guy in the grocery store who was wearing 403's and the other did the same as your guy "are those AL-DEN Indy boots? Used to have a pair..........."

My 405's arrived today, in great shape, and fit very well. They are on the red side in person.
I'll be taking them with me to a 5 week trip to Botswana where I'll be going on a couple of safaries. If I'm going to break in my first pair of Indys I want to do it in Africa!

10,300 miles later I've arrived in Maun, Botswana visiting my daughter and son in law who live here now.
Decided to bring along my brand new Alden 405 "Indy boots" because I couldn't think of a better place to break them in than 5 weeks in Botswana with 3 planned trips into the bush and a lot of tramping around in the fine sand that makes up much of this area. Wore these boots on the way over and they are breaking in nicely, super comfortable as we ran thru all sorts of treks in multiple airports to catch the 3 flights to get here.
Attached are the before shots with the boots getting their first exposure to the fine sand here. I will not be sparing them full exposure to the elements. I'll post more shots of the evolving patina as I put them thru their paces over here.

Indiana Jones would be proud.

I’ll try not to make this a travelogue but here I’m breaking in the Indy 405’s hiking along the Thamalkane river which is part of the Okavango delta near Maun Botswana
Please make it a travelogue. The boots are a tool you are using to do something awesome. We want to see the awesome along with the boots doing their job, which is its own awesome.

P.S. Don't get run down or gored by a hippo or stampeded by cape buffalo. I have read that they are the two most dangerous animals.

PLEASE make it a travelogue! Quite of few of us will never have the opportunity to visit Africa and love to look at Indy's being boots, along with the scenery.

Well ok then😊 ill take you along on my Botswana testing grounds and see just how tough these new, fresh out of the (Shoe Mart) box Indy boots really are!

on tap:
taking a small boat up the delta looking for hippos
7 day safari off the ground accommodations
3 day trip in the bush on ground with tents
helicopter tour of the delta
bush plane trip in Savuti area

the 405’s will be there every step of the way

By the way, Indy boots set off metal detectors at every airport with the steel shank

Before we head off into the bush we’ve been exploring Maun and the surrounding areas, I’ve been wearing the 405’s everywhere. Best fitting most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn.
Maun is located adjacent to the Thamalaken river which is flooded now due to a great rainy season.
Most here are financially poor but all seem very happy and hospitable. You don’t see any homeless, locals live in very modest accommodations but everyone seems to have somewhere to call home. Wood fires are used for everything. $1 for a decent stack.

Cows and donkeys roam freely all around town and basically feed and water themselves. They all have owners and everyone seems to keep track of who owns which cow.

Each neighborhood has a tiny outbuilding which is the local bar. Most are closed due to COVID restrictions.

Botswana has the coolest collection of off road vehicles not available in the States. Primarily Toyotas. Would love to ship one home.

Weekly trips into town to fill up on filtered water is part of the routine here.

They have an up and coming brewery here that makes some pretty good craft brews using locally grown millet and water out of the delta, filtered of course.
