The show was pretty good. Carl and Neko were both there; Dan Bejar (who my friend said is less essential to the band than Carl or Neko) was not. Neko got a lot of

from the male fans. The set was an hour and a half, including two encore songs, with quite a bit of banter between Carl, Neko, and the audience in between.

As a first-time listener, I would say that I preferred Carl's songs to Neko's. The influence of Brian Wilson was pretty evident even to a music neophyte such as myself. I'm definitely going to check them out.

I saw them when they came to Milwaukee last fall. They were pretty great. My favorite part of the show wasn't even the music, though. I loved the huge "New Pornographers" LED sign they had above their heads. It would flash throughout the whole show. I really got a kick out of that.

On Neko: I really love Neko's studio albums, but I think her live performances leave something to be desired. I've seen her twice (once with the NP's and once doing her own work) and I find myself wincing when she pushes sharp (as she does in almost every song). You can hear this on her live album "The Tigers Have Spoken," as well.

Other than that, the NP's show was great. The harmonies and instruments were all pretty tight and it was great to hear some of the more energetic moments from the albums reproduced on stage. Also, their drummer is one of my favorites. Unfortunately I have to miss their performance this coming Monday in Madison because of work. Boo!

Last point: yea "Challengers"! It's a nice change of pace and I find myself listening to it more than their previous albums.

Perhaps in form, but not function. I only have one album by each, though.

Well put. They are the "other" Canadian supergroup, and the Feist/Neko Case parallel is there. But obviously, there music is entirely different.
