Any Le Carre (RIP) fans? His spies are all the brutality and calculation, with none of the clothes, cars, or women. Just angry, petty and/or simply bored little men playing their lethal games with each other, never mind who gets hurt in the process. George Smiley does wear bespoke at least, but it's all oversized and sloppy as part of his tailor's scheme to get him to pay for extra fabric.

I am a huge le Carre fan, although I did find that he got a bit strident and hectoring in his later books. His dislike for America, and the CIA, got a bit tiresome, whether justified or not (and I have no idea if it was). I recall that George Smiley always wore ill-fitting expensive clothes, but I don't remember it being a tailor scheme to get him to pay for extra fabric. Do you recall where that was mentioned? I find it hard to believe any real-life tailor would do that. I am currently reading the big biography of le Carre. It was "authorized" by le Carre (David Cornwall, in real life), but he doesn't always come across as such a swell guy.

only the first Daniel Craig JB "Casino Royale" was still Brioni and Turnbull & Asser for shirts I believe. Afterwards all Daniel Craig JB movies were TF.

I personally don't like the austin powers movies and always find the "funny jokes" in previous James bond movies annoying. Leave the stupid humor to the avengers.

I think Daniel Craig’s Bond was pretty dark as well.

I loved the early Bond films. I admired Bond' s insouciant approach
to dangerous situations and the ease with which he seduced or was
seduced by gorgeous problematical women. His clothes, on the other
had were too sharp for my taste….not "U" enough. I guess that denotes
Bond's non establishment bona fides. In Moonraker he drove a 1933 4.5
Liter Bentley. For such a classic, he should have dressed more like
Captain Hastings. (Poirot)
