    Nepenthes / Needles

    Discussion Thread

Since Needles talk occasionally derails the Engineered Garments seasonal threads (and can be hard to find afterwards) I thought it was time to make a dedicated thread about all the various other Nepenthes brands such as Needles, Rebuild by Needles, Nepenthes Rough & Tumble, South2 West8, Sonic Lab and so on.

Nepenthes was founded by Keizo Shimizu as a menswear wholesale and distribution company in 1988. The first store opened in 1989 in Aoyama, Tokyo, and US offices established in Boston (1989) and New York (1996). He became discontent with what was not available in the market. This vision lead to the establishment of Engineered Garments designed by Daiki Suzuki, and Keizo’s own designs in Needles, South2 West8, and Sonic Lab.

Quote: Keizo Shimizu: A friend of mine, an interior designer, showed me a dried version of the Nepenthes plant. It was kind of grotesque, but at the same time kind of sexy; it was also very unique. In some ways it summed up what I wanted the company to be about.

Why'd you have to post that picture of that S2W8 poncho? Every time I see it I cry.

I really liked the look book for Rough and Tumble SS2015 - does anyone have a list of stockists?

I like this season's arrow coat, though not as much as last FW's, and it looks like the short arms might still be an issue.

And then this coat looks rad.

Didn't know the whole S/S 15 lookbook had came out yet - thought it was just a preview. Thanks Lorcan.
I think this season's lookbook (S/S 14) was one of the better things I've ever seen by Nepenthes. I'll post it entirety soon when I have a chance.

In the meantime, can we talk about how awesome these pants are:

Besides their weird Frankenstein flannel thing they do, I'm in love with Needles' Rebuild line. That Naval shawl collar they have this coming season is fiyahhhhh

^ love those zipper pants - so many different ways of wearing them too

digital mountain has them, v tempting: http://www.digital-mountain.net/shopdetail/000000002225/

Hmm not many, unless some new places start carrying it for SS15. Nepenthes NY will likely have it, and The Bureau Belfast had Rough and Tumble for the first time in SS '14 so hopefully will do for next summer too. As far as japanese stockists Eggplant.jp had some nice ss14 pieces.

Other than the ones catchh listed in the other thread

    http://store.silver-and-gold.com/?mode=cate&cbid=443987&csid=0)

I've also seen Large at Maps and Alpoa. Just depends - sometimes they carry L in some pieces and only up to M in others.

I only got two Needles items(fatigue cutoff shorts in olive, and freedom tee in grey stripe) and absolutely love them. Been wearing the fatigue cutoff shorts all summer, hoping they do a dark navy colour for SS15.

I won this sulphur dye utility shirt from SS13 the other day on Yahoo japan auctions, to add to my small but growing collection of Needles

Needles rebuild shawl collar jacket is one of my absolute favorite pieces in my wardrobe
