I read some of the spells and I think I opened the door to some evil spirits and started the end of time...

Which collection? I love me some H.P. but don't remember that being a collection but rather that he referenced the book many times, as in "the Necronomicon of the Mad Arab Abdul Alharzed."

I believe that it was a clever title that they gave to this particular anthology.

As I always understood it, The Necronomicon was a figment of H.P. Lovecraft's fecund creative imagination.
