Thanks to eBay and the B/S forums I have been starting to build a SF-approved wardrobe for next to nothing.

Interesting plan, Charlie... I totally agree with simplification... I'm working on this myself at the moment, not only with clothing.

Also think that the only way a minimalist wardrobe will work if you focus on quality -- things that are designed specifically for harder wear/longer lifespans, in terms of fabric/hardware/construction.

I've gotten into chambray/denim workshirts in the last few years, for example... partly because the well-made ones will far outlast any normal casual button-downs. Charlie, I'd recommend you look at some shirts like this. Or for jeans, 21 oz. Iron Heart. I wore through the crotch in a pair of Diors after only 4 months... I plan on moving on to Iron Hearts in the future. For boots, I think the Red Wing Gentleman Travellers, or Aldens would both long out-live Dr. Martens.

In sum, good philosophy... I think maybe 50 items is more realistic though, while still being pretty impressive from a simplicity perspective.

BLAH blah blah blah blah blah

It sounds like you've got a lot of must haves. Not really minimalistic. I'm thinking like one shirt one pair of jeans one pair of shoes one jacket.

Got many a jawn, but I could live for a year with: (and I pretty much did)

6-pack of white v neck tees (Hanes or AA if I'm fancy and ballin)
    APC NS
    APC black stretch Cure
this one PRL charcoal grey cardi I have, with black lambskin elbow patches. $30 pickup and it fits and looks cool.
salt and pepper grey hoody. I have a $20 Uniqlo one but someday would like a W+H or something.
Slim white button up, don't really care but preferably APC or something
    MMM black 5-zip leather rider's
    MMM white german army trainers
Raf Simons 05-06 long SB wool coat
    Jil Sander side-tab beltless trousers
Jil Sander X Church's laceups in black

Super bland, but I really pretty much did wear just this for the past year. Anything else is nice, but additional.

I sweat a lot. Can't wear the same thing every day, otherwise I'd have to wash my clothes every-day. Granted, I've also played with the idea of having, say, 5 of the exact same shirt, we'll see. Be more like Einstein and his 5 identical grey suits, but geared towards more streetwear. I misnamed the thread a bit, this is more of a "necessity" not "must-have" I guess. What are the minimum pieces you need to feel not necessarily deprived, but well enough.

Crude visual of my ideal closet...

    1) Cropped gray trench
    2) Krane Officer's Coat
    3) Apolis Activism Vandenburg Jacket
    4) Flathead Flannel (blue)
    5) White OCBD
    6) Navy OCBD
    7) Epaulet Light Gray Chambray
    8) Topman denim tie
    9) 3Sixteen dual-band bracelet
    10) Leather Purcells
    11) Fingerless winter gloves
    12) W+H Dayton Service Boots (brown)
    13) Kicking Mule Workshop 1980
    14) Gap tee (charcoal, black, white)
    15) Clark DBs (brown suede)
    16) Black/gray check scarf (not pictured)
    17) Uniqlo S-002 black denim (not pictured)
    18) Slim wallet (not pictured)
    19) Gap sweater (not pictured)
    20) Gap thermal (not pictured)

Some of these I already have, others I don't. I'm not going into a job field that really calls for non-SW clothes. I also don't find myself in many situations calling for formal wear, so I'm not too interested in stocking up in that department.

I'm also more into outerwear, so jeans + Purcells + tees on warm days suit me just fine. When the colder weather comes, I'd rather have nicer outwear and pair it with decent thermals or sweaters.

What kind of dirty hippie has like 3 tee shirts, c'mon guys, have a pile of 15 white tees is not going to bring clutter into your life. You can have like three jeans and two pairs of shoes but switch tees.

i probably have even more than 15 plain white shirts for days when i'm not going anywhere, or when its really hot outside (gets above 100F where i live in the summer regularly) so i do laundry like every two or three weeks.
