The fabric on minez is very different from all of my other Polo shirts. Perhaps, not tattered enough yet, tho.

That doesn't make it madras ... the fabric on madras shirts is quite thin, and is a loose weave (image a thinner OCBD type cloth in a loose weave). I have seen and handled a similar RL shirt like the one you posted -and I don't think it is madras fabric. One way to tell is from seeing how strong the colors are - actual madras shirts have kind of muted colors, not 'bright' if you understand what I mean.

Would it make you feel better if I posted a pic of my youngest son's madras zip tie?

I quite like these Madras offerings from J. Crew this season: [IMG][IMG] I may procure the one on the right.

I saw a very nice one at J Crew the other day in long sleeve that was very fitted looking. Might have to grab one.

Bear in mind that they are $70 -- too expensive in my opinion for a shirt that is sized S/M/L. They are full sleeved though, so that is a consideration.

Lately I've been looking at some Gitman Vintage shirts. They cost quite a bit more than most of the offerings I've seen here so far (about $150), but that's SW&D for you.

These are nice, but OUCH at $150.

Not cut like BBBF. It is baggier, as madras should be. It is S/M/L sizing.

FWIW, I wear a 15.5x34 in regular BB OCBDs and I wear a small in these LEs.

Hard to pass up at that price... Could you post shoulder and chest measurements from your size Small?

    Approx. measurements:

    p-2-p: 21"
    s-2-s (back): 17.5"
    BoC: 29.5"

Keep in mind that Madras shirts are not meant to be tight fitting.

Bought a few Lands End Madras shirts. Too large as usual (size small) but I like the fabric and deep colors so I'll have one tailored. Still cheaper than J Crew.

Does anyone have a source for Madras fabric or know of a shirtmaker who carries it? Cego? Chipp2/Winston Tailors?

Mercer is the only one I know and he has only a few samples.

^Do you know of any source in India? I was in a huge shop in Chennai but saw no Madras fabric, and couldn't seem to describe it well. Calling it "Madras" there didn't seem to distinguish it particularly. Maybe taking a sample with me would help.
