I posted some photos of Vincent Coll looking well put together at the line-up and subsequent trial, at least for a 24 year old on trial for murder back in 1931. I guess just another example of how society as a whole was just better dressed in the old days.

Yeah, a lot of those old-time mobsters were indeed very sharp dressers. Unsurprising in a way. They had lots of money, and masculine elegance was prized. I think also they looked to their apparel to convey an aura of respectability.

At least into the 90s some of the mob bosses continued this tradition, notably John Gotti, but track-suited hoods were rapidly becoming the norm. http://mafianewsreport.com/mafia-photo-gallery
