...Could the small clothing/shoe industry that has survived here be expanded to clothe the whole countries though ?

The answer is yes, we can still find everything made in our countries, the main difference will be the cost of course.
If this world crisis could change our habits, if our way of consuming could change, it would probably be good. We would go back to a system most of us here over 50 know, more or less like it was when we were kids.

Of course it would change things on StyleForum, we wouldn't see new purchases everyday, for example on the CM thread you have some guys that give the impression they buy a new suit every week...

With all the uncertainty I've ordered one final piqué polo from Sunspel, and that's me done

A slight diversion. Respect to Mr.Knightley for his well kept slippers. See Church’s thread on CM.

I have to confess my own slippers are from Shoe Zone cost £5 a pair. They are fabric uppers so no need for polish and they have never seen a shoe tree.
Thank you @Kingstonian

I have always suffered from cold feet and have therefore favoured a substantial 'house shoe'. I have four pairs of Church's and two of Tricker's, plus a couple of other pairs. I like to lavish the same attention on them as I do on my outdoor shoes. Never off duty!

Blimey eight pairs of slippers! I went for the two pairs offer in Shoe Zone but will only be wearing one pair until it is worn out.

I think that once the Covid-19 epidemic has died down that it won't take long for society to go back to its old ways, people soon forget!
The banks, politicians and business bosses will revert back to their greedy ways.
I hope that things will change and people realise, that we don't have to rely on those in "power" as much. Where I live, I have noticed that over the years, society has changed dramatically, the old working class no longer exists, we have an underclass and I don't mean that to sound derogatory, it's just the way that things have become. The old working classes have become more middle class, this is because of the non existence of jobs that would once upon a time have been classed as working class.
I still consider myself to be working class, but in actual fact I am probably middle class, in my life style. I have gone from being an electrical engineer working in a coal mine, to a job lecturing, but now lucky enough to be able to be semi retired, and work when it suits me, which at the moment is not at all.
This brings me back to clothes and style, and the lack of it in the broader society, I don't expect everybody to dress in our "look", as that would be boring, but I think that our throw away society , encourages a lack of imagination. As a young teenage Mod, l could guarantee that when I met up with my mates, that we would all look different, but follow a code.
This was partly due to oneupmanship, where you wouldn't let mates know where you got your latest gear from, same style different label etc.
I pretty much agree with you except for your first sentence.
I doubt that there is going to be the money around to go back to how it was.
Lots of business were only just scraping by BEFORE the lockdown, every day they stay shut more and more will never reopen.
Same with individuals too, after 12 years of low interest rates most under 35s think that savings are a stupid idea and that living on credit was the thing to do...you should have seen the look of horror on my workmates faces a month ago when they were told their overtime was finished...next month they will probably be on 80% of their flat pay and lets be honest there are MANY much worse off than that.
That 'underclass' that you mentioned are in for a shock too, there wont be the money for benefits at todays rates, they will be getting food vouchers !

A clear example on Loake Royal. They could have spent more and tucked the join behind the big strip of leather at the back of the shoe.

On the top left of the photo there is also a smaller join between the bottom of the flap for the laces and the top of the longwing broguing.
The quality of leather on the Loake Royal would have put me off more than the seam.
Your Hoggs Kenmore had better leather and were more expensive than the basic Royal.

Well the Loake Birkdales arrived today (thankfully !)
They are very nice but probably too 'pointy' for most on here,Loake describe the toe as 'Almond shaped' imo its not that pointy but more 'snipey' (as we described dogs heads) than my Alfred Sargent Stepneys .
The leather seems a step up from the 1880 range and streets ahead of the Royal but that's reflected in the price.
I think that Loake have been wise in their approach of offering various ranges in different qualities,a bit like Ford used to do with their cars L,XL,GXL,Ghia.
The Loake Birkdale isnt as good quality as the C&J Pembroke for instance but it is £200 cheaper, its a bit like comparing a Ford Escort Ghia to a Porsche ?
When JS made his comment to MrK about the seam on the Loake being due to cost cutting the interesting question to him would have been 'yes I see,so can you suggest a better quality shoe at the same price as the Royal'?
We really to get what we pay for comparitively, with the 30% reduction I am happy with the Birkdales,I really like the colour too.

Unavailable for a few years now,I still watch Ebay in case someone sells an unworn pair in my size.
I was doing a search about them, some said Cheaney made them for Fife, some others C&J - or is it simply Loake ?...
BTW no longwings offering at the moment at C&J apparently.

Those boots don't look right with that outfit, and two button converted to 3 never looks right due to the way it is cut.
Just my opinion.
Well your opinion is wrong as that’s not a two button converted, it’s constructed as a 3 button with a nicely canvassed roll to the lapels above the top button.

Very sharp, @Thin White Duke

Perhaps not my colours, but I don't enjoy the climate that you have. I think your jackets generally look better, as in this case, when you fasten just the middle button.
Cheers matey, but climate-wise, check out my blog post as this look was inspired by the Duke of Wellington not Sonny Crockett!!

I apologise, but I'm aware of your like to convert, and it is maybe just the photo, but the top button just looks a bit out of line. No big deal.
