1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Having delved into many discussions about leather here on SF, I feel it is worth starting a thread where we can compile lots of terms used in the leather trade in order to explain those many and sometimes mysterious words and their origins that relate to this ancient business, be it Leathergoods, Shoes, Clothing or Saddlery.
Leather itself can be made from many species for all manner of uses, colours have traditional names that date back centuries, the history of leather tanning is both ancient and full of wonderful terms, foundries making buckles hold such a wealth of history etc. etc.
With so many excellent makers and producers in this field on SF, (Horween, Saddleback and many, many more), this could become a good reference post and also educate us all somewhat and put aside some of the nonsense I've read.
Looking forward to seeing lots of questions and answers!
    Best to all,
    Tim Hardy
