I got that and why you brought them up. But what do you mean by "Technically, yes. Practically? Well, this is where I say things around the edges seem subject to non-conformity. "
peeb: The daily daf starts up again this week. I think you need to do it. Just the kind of discipline you need and we can revisit all this in seven years.
Stitch, not quoting you at your request...but your last two posts? Can you see why an outsider like myself might say things get a little open to personal interpretation around the edges? And the fact you keep disclaiming your level of knowledge...well, someone as steeped in Joo lore as you and it get complicated for you? Same conclusion from you goyish friend here...a little dodgy around the edges.

my sister, may she rot in hell, is "observant" but she is a huge cheater. so she hs come up with a whole group of laws that don't make any sense, because she assumes that nobody else in the family would second guess her. so she'll eat in a fish resteraunt, and eat a kosher fish, but it could be served off dishesor even cooked on pots taht were used for shellfish.
. . .
need a chavrusah?
A short answer in case no one has time (it is friday) for a long answer. Two reasons: fear that it might be made with idolatorus sacramental use in mind and a way of creating separation to avoid wanton merriment with gentiles. Mostly the former. Can someone give me the rationale as to why wine must be made only by Jews to be kosher? Given it is basically fruit, if nothing traif gets added, I really have no understanding about this.
