Sherman Bros has what looks to be a fair amount of old Alden stock in the more tame models for $3-400.

Anything you’d recommend? I’ve somehow never tried Alden, but have long wanted to - just not sure what to start with or how to size. I’d love a brown boot. The Indy, I’m guessing?

I wouldn’t start with anything on discount at Sherman. They’re boring models save some Leisure Handsewn loafers.

Alden has many lasts ranging from quite narrow to wide. The most common boot lasts are the Barrie (wide) and the Trubalance (wider). You can find reams of sizing advice online.

You could look at a Norwegian Split Toe on a commando sole or something similar. Otherwise, Indy is the most common. Special makeups come down to details like eyelets (speed hooks vs. brass vs. no eyelet), laces, welts (360, 280, storm welt, Norwegian), soles (there are only like 4) and, of course, leather and color. Shops do boots in narrower lasts as well.

Super jacked on coffee and wanting my second Wythe donegal sweater to come in from NMWA so I can compare with the XL I got from Wythe direct. Also I want my Wythe beach cloth vest. And, like, a purpose outside of clothing.
Take it you ordered a size down from NMWA? I ended up ordering the XL myself and I’m a 41ish jacket. Might be a bit too big on me, but I was not loving the smaller look on it. Feels like it should be sized up

I did, yes. I'm a 44 jacket and the XL is a bit oversized on me. I agree the style looks good oversized. I just have too meaty a chest for it to look as appealing as I believe it does on skinny, flat-chested male models.

Japan-adjacent, but you fellas are super helpful...

Anyone have any experience with the Bryceland's Sawtooth Denim shirt? I love the look, and I think I'm between a 40 and 42. I kind of want this to be a low-maintenance shirt, toss in the wash and dryer and be done, so trying to account for shrink.

Any suggestions?

Sorry haven’t tried that brand.
If there’s enough room or a need for shrinkage I’d throw it in the dryer once, but that’s it - they shorten the life of clothing.

IMO since there is a Brycelands store in Tokyo it's pretty Japanese adjacent. I've been wanting that shirt forever. It's great.

No experience, but based on my experience with Asian sizing and shrinkage, I would go up from what you think is your right size. And, as noted, I wouldn't dry unless necessary to reduce shrinkage. Generally cotton will shrink over time with cold wash and hang dry.

I emailed the folks at Brycelands and they said to go TTS. Since it’s a not-thin material shirt, if you’re in between sizes, you should probably err on the side of the larger size.

I have a 42" chest (measured with a tailors tape). I found the size 42 denim and chambray sawtooth to be too tight in the shoulders after washing and drying. It wasn't comfortable to reach for things or driving. For denim and chambray shirts I like to wash and dry using the dryer so I gave them away and ordered the 44. Yet, Permanent Style and the Bryceland's website recommend taking your actual size. From my experience, when in doubt, size up.

They are very well made if you want an authentic vintage Levis style Sawtooth. I think it is the best of its kind. The shirt tails are very long (authentic vintage cut) so there is a bit of material to tuck with the denim. The chambray is lightweight so no big deal.

As an alternative, there is always the RRL. Sizing is easy and the shirt tail isn't as long.

I think this is where we get into the thing about the JP/Asian market taking the size to be the actual chest measurement.

I think the Italians are worse.
