Has anyone seen this movie? Reviews appreciated.
Is this movie released?
Not yet. Looks pretty good from the preview I saw in the theater.
Very strange. I have erased her message, but I'm fairly sure a friend of mine specifically wrote to me to tell me about that movie a couple of months ago. Maybe I misunderstood, she had heard about it, not actually seen it. Anyhow, now I understand why the guy looked at me funny at Blockbuster's on Sunday when I asked about renting it.
Resurrecting this thread. Has anyone seen it, now that it is out?
Someone just gave me a DVD of it. Â What to say? Â It's nice for a couple of hours of relaxation. Â Penn has done a lot better. Â Sorry -- I have nothing really to say about the film except that parts of it were interesting for topical reasons and Penn is a good actor (except he deserves better material).
Oh yeah, I watched it late at night, so not being as astute was surprised by ending.
Most films are so horrible that I now judge them by whether I can sit through them or not.
Edit: Fabb's -- I take it you like the Delpy films, n'est pas?
I heard the reviews were not glaring. Are there scenes with Nicole Kidman interpreting? I had high hopes, with Penn being in the movie. I don't care much for Nicole Kidman.
I only saw one movie with Julie Delpy, and it was OK. I recently saw an interesting interview with her done on French TV. Basically, a taxi driver picks her up at the airport and does all the interviewing when he realizes who she is. Very fresh and natural. And she glows with beauty, intelligence and warmth.
OK. Â I thought Delpy was your avatar. Â I haven't seen that one -- I'll check it.
I don't care for Kidman. Â Yes there are some scenes where she is doing direct interpretation between two parties. Â There are also scenes of the UN in general doing their bit -- and the the interpreters doing theirs.
In some ways, the gov't figure from Africa is a composite of Mugawbe and a few other lunatics.
There are some interesting plot twists and a few good monologues and I think some nuance in the African political bits.
i thought it was pretty ordinary
the only thing about it that i thought was good and well done was the fact that penn and kidman didnt get together in the end. 9 movies out of 10 would have ended that way.
Dude, Sean Penn never gets the girl.
and here was me thinking him and the nun were going at it in dead man walking
Well, here's the consensus opinion of the critics from MRQE: http://www.mrqe.com/lookup?interpreter
Just saw the film Birth -- Kidman was in it. Not bad -- a lot of it could be better though. The kid's delivery was very good.
