I think I prefer square, though am also partial to other shapes like the octagon.

I voted for them all. Why limit yourself to any specific shape? Variety is the spice...

I voted oval, but circle and square/rectangle are fine too.

I'm not a fan of dimensional ones, like that flower link above ^^ ...too bulky for me

All are OK so long as they are not too big and get in the way. I voted oval because they generally follow the line of the cuff better and are not likely to snag when taking off the jacket as irregular or angled shapes can do.

Square or circle in classic, tasteful designs.

I think sterling knots are the perfect links. And by keeping your links double sided you stop yourself from using links that are too big. If they don't fit through the buttonhole you probably shouldn't be using them.
