Hi all, Where is the best NYC place to get pants/jeans tailored?

Idc for well known places or small sweat shops. I am looking for someone skilled at doing the hemming and tapering. I've been going to denim surgeon and everytime I go the fit is gawd awful. also its super expensive. Maybe it's the way i explain it to them, idk

any recommendations? how do i ask for the jeans to be shorten, but also tapered skinny but not skin tight?

I had a positive experience with Peter Field (now renamed to Arthur and Lucca). I had a suit jacket that had been taken in at the sides very badly; the upper back always felt tight whenever I put on the jacket and moved my arms vertically, and the back also had a lot of puckering.

They fixed both problems, so I can recommend Arthur and Lucca if you're looking to fix a botched alteration.

I mean this is obvious...but you are trying on the jeans when you go in...right? Not just "asking" then to do this and that?
There are several suggestions in this thread. Where do you live? Work?

Jeans are really not that difficult to shorten/taper. At all.

Well, I suppose things change and the thread doesnโ€™t always update. In that spirit, I can unfortunately report that Cardelino has turned over staff and isnโ€™t very good anymore.
Cardelino is back at his original location on Broadway btw 22-23.
i assume you are referring to the staff at his old location at 174 Fifth ave?

No Iโ€™m talking about the broadway location. I work a block away in fifth and have been going there for three years or so. Originally there was an older gent doing the measurements but the past several times Iโ€™ve been in there, starting about six months ago, he hasnโ€™t been there and itโ€™s been a younger woman instead. The adjustments Iโ€™ve had done since then (several pairs of trousers and a jacket) have all turned out sub-par.

I knew he was thinking of retiring
It wasn't just his unfriendly wife?

I donโ€™t know the relationship, but she was perfectly friendly - she just took stuff in by making it awkwardly tight in some places but still excessively loose in others. And at a fairly pricey rate (something like 80 bucks for bringing in the waist and slimming the leg of a pair of trousers, more but I canโ€™t remember how much for a suit).

Hello members. Does anyone have experience with a tailor named Jimmy in Astoria? He is a retired older gentlemen working from his basement.

Thank you

bruv, i need a good recommendation for a tailor store here in NY. i went to denimsurgeon because of the reviews, and I was hightly disappointed.

Does anyone have experience on how much to take off for alternations? like How do i go about describing it, because that might be it, and I don't just want to blame on the tailor.

I highly recommend Dashnor Tailoring (320 E81st), everything (ranging from hemming trousers to taking in very baggy chalk stripe trousers) he has done for me has been fantastic. I believe he used to be head of the tailoring division at the Tom Ford flagship and has impeccable definition to detail. I now hold off on getting alterations in England and wait until I can visit him here in NY.
