Yea man, it's rough trying to get handmade button holes in NYC. I gave up that idea a while ago. Have you posted what yours look like?

Unfortunately not, I left the three worst jackets with him for a third redo and didn’t think to take pictures beforehand, but for $120 per jacket they look nothing like what I would expect and nothing like the examples shown here.

Just found these guys. Maybe give them a shot? $15 per button hole handmade.
Edit: Actually I pass by there pretty often, I can get a picture of their handmade button holes for you Friday if you'd like.

What does this pricing mean though, first button is $95, then $15 each?
  • Functioning buttonholes $95+
  • Handmade buttonholes $15+ ea

$95 is for machine made but regardless how many I guess? then I would always go handmade buttonhole (if turns out to look decent)

I'll bet "functioning buttonholes" specifically means replacing the decorative buttons on jacket sleeves with real buttons / holes ... so you can pretend you're rocking bespoke, or maybe because you're a field surgeon and need to roll up your blazer sleeves when extracting musket balls from bleeding crusaders.

Is it really the same thing? My OTR jackets don't have an actual cuff that opens. That needs to be cut and finished. And the buttons probably all need to be reattached.

I wouldn't know what their terminology is, but if someone tell me handmade buttonholes, I expect buttonhole to be functioning, and I have not seen a functioning buttonhole (as in you cut it through) but cuff is not open, like what would that achieve?

And if it's decorative button hole (like some of the RTW stuff), then I wouldn't call it working button hole

edit: also while 15 each is "cheap", to do it on a jacket, is at least 6 * 15 = 90 or 8 * 15 = 120 (i.e. 3 button or 4 button on each sleeve)

I didn't anyone was asking about jacket cuffs. Didn't occur to me that anyone did that (which is why I joked about the idea).

There are many reasons someone might want buttonholes made. Like converting a 2-button coat to a 3-button coat, etc. I've done this (but with machine-made button holes, which looked perfectly good).

Unfortunately my tailor passed and looking for someone new.

According to this thread Wazin is the guy, is that still the case? Need a suit tailored for my brothers wedding, nip the jacket, hem and cuff pants, little things here and there, how much should I expect to roughly pay with him?
