I puschased 2 John Cooper suiting from one of the most reputable fabric shop in Hong Kong at HK$280.- /yd which is super 150. It did not mentioned the country of origin. Sorry to say John Cooper is very poor quality and my comment even below VBC. I would not buy any John Cooper fabric even for odd pants.

All the well known (by Styleforum stds) tailors have raised their prices since demand is up. Fortunately my tailor is not so well known and hence prices have been kept flat over the past year. Seems many on here just goes to the same 4 or 5 names.

That's quite possible, but I was quoted a similar price from all three tailors I visited (Linda, Baron Kay, Charms), so I didn't feel like I was getting shafted too badly. I should note that the price above included $40 in shipping since I didn't have enough time to pick up the suit while I was there. And the quality was good enough for me, since I was just looking for a simple worksuit.

I don't know if that's true that the tailors frequently named on here raised their prices due to styleforum. there was a post where one of the members asked Patrick of WW Chan if he had a lot of SF customers and he said no.

That was probably me. I asked him if SFers made up a large percentage of his tour business, and he said not really. Most came from individual referrals (i.e., friends of existing customers).

I know that Chan's prices have increased about 25% in the past four years or so. I sort of figured this was the result of higher rents and labor costs in HK and perhaps fabric costs as well. I would like to continue doing business with them, but it's kind of hard to rationalize additional acquisitions when I am so well supplied with clothing from them, and I don't have nearly as much occasion to dress really well now that I'm retired.

Some people claim there has been a drop-off in Chan's quality. If so, I have been unable to discern it. The last suit I got from them, ordered on the July 2012 tour, seemed quite on par with their previous efforts.

I see that one poster said that John Cooper fabric was very poor quality, even below VBC. I have two blazers from VBC 130 that I've had for eight and seven years respectively and given lots of wear, as well as two suits more recently acquired from VBC 110 and VBC 140. I would have no hesitation in ordering another suit from a VBC fabric.

I'm sure word of mouth and repeat business no doubt helps their business tremendously. I guess we want Attolini suits at Jos A Bank prices!:D

I think Chan is still very good as I just had a suit made up when I went to HK two months ago. The place was packed. I'm starting to use Simpson Sin a bit more as their cut I like more and their price is about $650 USD for VBC fabric.

Labor, Gas prices coupled with wool and cotton prices skyrocketing drove the prices up during the last several years . Both Yao and Ascot Chang told me that.

    I remember

Since most tailors are in Tsim Sha Tsui, essentially all of them has taken a hit in terms of increased rent. I have relatives who run a jewlery shop in TST and over the years they've had to move many times due to the crazy rent. TST is now a hot bed for mainlander tourists so pretty much all landlords are raising their rates whenever they can.

example: the building Peter Lee is in has been sold and will be torn down....most likely for an office building. Where's he gonna go next?

I believe Peter Lee owns his store, so I'm guessing he's done well on redevelopment...I'm wondering if anyone has tried Dream Bespoke? I dropped by and the suits looked quite nice. Young guy running it who's father is a tailor. Very soft shoulder. Limited website but has a Facebook page.

Gordon Yao basted fitting. H&S Crystal Springs. Requested softer construction in general, as this will obviously be for more casual wear.
