The Piob Palace does not have a walled in courtyard and that has always bugged me. Having a landscape architect over Thursday evening to talk.

I think "fungeon" is in danger of joining "setback" and "Waffle house" on the list of SF terms that make causal readers want to blow their brains out through sheer, repetitive drudgery.

I must resist the urge for a water feature as we have hard water and there is no chance it would not get a calcium build up.

Just pour a couple of gallons of white vinegar through it every few months? Like a tankless backflush lol.

I have resisted a desire for a pond because of my bears and bobcats, but I'm getting closer and closer to thinking up ways around that issue.

wouldnt a water feature recycle the same water over and over, like a pool? If you wanted one, couldnt you just treat the water and be done with it?

Ways around keeping bears out? Seems like a challenging task.

Wear less leather and gain a few pounds. They will no longer think you are interested in them.....

More seriously, have you considered living where the bears aren't?

Indeed. Protecting fish from anything but bears can be done with depth, and built in fish caves can help w/ bears.

The only true solution I've seen against bears is a custom build pond w/ custom built wrought iron grating on top. Not sure I want that aesthetic, especially w/ the cost.

I think the only people who should have walled in courtyards are people who also employ firing squads
