I successfully installed my Ring doorbell today. I’m a damn pro now

I sealed up that takeoff. Had to warn my wife that the side effect of sealing the ducts is that the floor might get cold.

Ironically once I can properly encapsulate the crawl space I'll probably pipe some conditioned air down there to keep the floors warm.




@Numbernine I'm about to get down with some DWV, a little sooner than I planned. Probably going to replace this whole branch (just serves the kitchen sink)

And, yes, my drain pipes are supported by loose stacks of bricks.

Eesh. That looks brutal. Good job getting it fixed though. Worth putting the time in in that one.

Just got notice from our insurers (AIG) that they will not renew our homeowners policy due to wildfire risk. Had been expecting this at some point but hoped we might skate for another year and maybe sell before it became an issue. Sounds like both AIG and Chubb (the usual alternative for HNW coverage) are running into the limits of their reinsurance treaties and just ditching policies in CA wholesale as a result. Only State Farm were willing to pick up the business and we will pay about 35% more for considerably worse coverage going forward. Beggars can't be choosers.

What's the definition of HNW coverage? FWIW we use a local independent insurance agent (not in CA, so can't speak to wildfire risk) every year for all of our coverage, maybe one could find an insurer for you that would be willing to get you coverage?

That foil tape is awesome. I ordered some gang boxes from the shop once when starting a new job and the tin knockers had left a half dozen rolls in one of them. I snagged those and still have a couple rolls left. That pipe is corroded through because it doesn't have enough pitch. You need 1/8" per foot min or it doesn't scour properly. Corrosive sediment builds up on the bottom and eats through the semi porous cast iron.

I can't be the first person to have thought of using a water heater drain pan under a Christmas tree stand to catch accidental water spills. But I search on the Google and I can't find anything. Regardless I feel perdy clever right now.

Took the old ****** stinky dishwasher out today! Found tons of mouse poop behind/underneath it. So... Ya know... That is ******* great. But luckily, all seems to be old.

My area has strict controls over light pollution and offending the mountain views year-round and especially Christmas decorations. Security patrol would be on your doorstep at about 5:05PM. "Good evening Mr Omega. I'm sorry but you will need to immediately ........."
