Pine straw is a no no around here. Too flammable. Our insurer won't even allow mulch in any bed < 10 ft from a structure.

Smart. mulch gets dry as hell. Before i had the irrigation redone, there was one new garden bed that got missed. You could literally crumble the cedar chips between your fingers.

I mean...I could have dug up everything on the ground and put mulch in but figured I would stay with this for now.

We did a herringbone in black. Considering the ceilings are 3m and we prefer the rest white it seemed like a good idea. Very happy how it turned out, especially with the banding on the side. But....the little one in the picture does bring back a lot of sand, which is quickly visible in this color scheme.

Oh dang I like that! Very bold. Did the black show scuffs easily?

It’s doable. A lighter color would be easier, but so far it doesn’t scuff much. Some light scratches here and there, but you have to know they are there. If you don’t have a dog and don’t wear shoes indoors it’s not a problem.

One of the complications of city living is the need for a fire-rated parapet for lot-line-adjacent structures like my deck. In this case, it’s atop a 7-ft tall retaining wall. When I was planning to do this project myself, I intended to build a platform on which to construct the wall, then lean it up into place. Contractor calculus says it’s cheaper to have ten guys come on a Saturday morning and muscle that ****** up there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This morning was the special inspection of the form work and rebar for the footings on the other side of the deck. Concrete tomorrow...

Does anyone know any good deals on air freight? I have a relation where we night be able to find a nice little arbitrage situation here..

We could fill the hole as it were

Fill the holes with gnomes or fill the gnomes' holes. Important distinction, and because it is you, it is with clarifying.

Could be worse...

Over the weekend I noticed that there are more ships than usual parked in the SF Bay off of Oakland. Too bad the article didn't actually explain why they can't offload.

I’ve seen in the news a bunch lately about the boba shortage. I don’t think I could even name a place here in Metro Detroit that sells boba. Welcome to flyover country!

You are the whitest person I have never met.

There is a store in Troy called "quickly boba cafe", every frozen yogurt place I can think of has the little bubbles for toppings. There are genuinely about 2 dozen places between detroit and Troy not including the bigger chains.

I know it is a pandemic but come on man!

If you need a tour guide of the area, let me know! ;)
