Its a Twombley's Red Sentinel. A fairly columnar red variatal. Its a tight spot right where I'm going to curve a new path (next weekends project - though wont be able to finish till I rezone my back yard irrigation), so needed something that won't get too wide.

Cool. My dad has at least two Twombley's (but of course he has one of everything). Hard to tell the difference between some of these when they're small.

Beautiful yard. I envy being able to put acers out in the full sun like that. Honestly my japanese garden project in the LA foothills is aggressive at best.
In 25 years when my new conifers are throwing more shade it might be more feasible. Until then I shall just pay the piper (aka the water bill.)
