Completed my first big boy electrical job. I removed the wires and 40 amp breaker for the non-existent hot tub to free up space in the panel, then I ran 20 amp dedicated circuits to the sump pump (easy) and crawlspace dehumidifier (pain **********). Didn't burn the house down (yet). Didn't even trip a breaker.

Next project is adding lights to the attic since the only light is blocked by some flex duct they added, plus an outlet for an HDTV antenna amplifier.

In memoriam to our brethren @Van Veen.

It's safer than an extension cord with the ground prong cut off. Or a 50' extension cord with the excess shoved on top of an HVAC duct. ?‍♂️

When I was a kid all the houses had fuses rather than circuit breakers. My dad showed me how to screw a penny under the fuse when they blew until you got around to buying a new one

the old tin-foil-in-the-fuse-socket amp trick. in my old man's car in the 80s (mazda) a fuse would blow when you honked the horn and braked simultaneously (!). i think this happened a couple of times he ended up replacing with a higher current fuse.

I lived in a house with a fuse box in college. It was a pain ********** because it was a single family converted to multi-unit. The circuits spanned units, so my lights would go out if my neighbor used a hair dryer or whatever. That place was a dump, and it was actually college-owned off-campus housing.

Wish I knew the penny trick back then.

I can remember the first time a fuse blew after my father died. I was about nine, and as the "man of the house," it was my duty to fumble my way in the dark to the basement and do the penny trick.
