Between the bobcats, foxes, coyotes, rattlesnakes, hawks and owls -- rodents have to be wary around these parts. Thanks Mother Nature!

Having just replaced a bunch of switches the afternoon, wiring and electrical doesn't feel like fake work, but the other things sound worse.
Didnt want to bother doing electrical wiring myself. The prices they gave us for an extra outlet vs just the empty tube to the mains where not consequential enough to think about doing it myself.

I did spec extra empty outlets on each floor and room to run ethernet through though. The weird thing is that they did draw the house with coax/copper for TV and radio in most rooms, but no ethernet. Thing is that I didnt use the copper in our old apartment, and don't plan to use it here either. So I had them take it out and leave empty wall sockets for ethernet.

So one of my chores is to run double cat6 cables to each room (they only wanted to do singles, and charged 500 bucks per outlet, not going to happen).

For those interested, im putting up 3 TP-link omada EAP 245 access points with management software for the house. With a theoretical speed of 1750mbps on two bands its going to take a while until the outside connection catches up enough to make full use of it :slayer:

So, a year ago we started a patio project. Due to a contractor flaking mid project, it took us 14 months to actually get it finished.

The patio is built (I need to sand one Area and glue a few loose stones. ) And rh
W rest of the work is done by me and my trusty wheelbarrow
We built an addition on to an existing patio built by the original owners who had no clue what they were doing. So it is all abit wonky, but we made it work. It is going to be surrounded by "Michigan deco rock" which is a local 3/4" stone that is about half the price of actual decorative stone. I ordered 11 tons of it, I have moved about 6 so far. Should be done this week with the first load. Here are some pictures of the work as completed so far! Please forgive the scattered stuff, I am not very good about completing one project at a time :)

Sleeping like **** getting our house in order to put on the market and thinking about buying something new. After visiting some other houses, I feel better about our chances of a somewhat quick sale even with COVID. Desirable neighborhood and a house that has been well maintained.

Only issue is finding something we like....

There’s nothing roughly about it. He looks you up in a “wealth screening” tool like Wealth Engine and it spits out your net worth, annual income, and major giving history, as well as proprietary calculations of your “propensity” and “capability” to give.

It’s creepy as **** to see your information laid out like that, but there isn’t much you can do about it.

I've been watching the Sopranos for the first time (no spoilers!), and I got a kick out of the episode where the daughter's college shakes them down for a big donation--including straight up saying something like "based on your finances, we think you can give $XX"

My reading of it was that their own life of crime made them see it as a shakedown and that they had to give in and pay the full amount or else there would be consequences--when in reality, colleges research potential big donors and make overtures like that all of the time and there's no penalty for not following up. They aren't going to somehow penalize your kid or anything--they will just move along.

But Tony himself would never make a request like that without teeth, so he eventually sucked it up and donated the full requested amount.

(not sure if that was the show's real intention, or just my interpretation after knowing some people in college development offices. Maybe the show just wanted to show the funny situation of the mobster getting a taste of his own medicine rather than make a deeper point).

Making some progress again on the veggie garden. Bluestones laid and soil filled in. Plan is to grow ground cover and some herbs at ground level.

I once killed a mouse by dropping an ottoman on it. True story. I felt like a hero.

I was hoping I could get into the neighborhood where I'm renting before it blew up. Houses rarely come on the market. A 775 sqft. bungalow (not even fully updated, just new appliances, countertops, & paint on the cabinets) just went on the market for $262k. Fml.

(this probably belongs in the pleb thread)
