I was 45, but I live in San Francisco. Almost anywhere else in the country I’d have bought at least a decade earlier.

The recession is what made us pull the trigger on the Piob Palace but then it led to use being landlords for a few years. That wasn't all bad as it drove home I don't want to be one of those people with multiple single family rentals.

Heated towels are nice, heated floors are great, but a steam shower kicks ass. No regerts on that one.

When we completed our master bath, I had them tile the ceiling but we did not put in a steam shower. If I were to retrofit the steam pieces, what all is needed? Glass sealed area and I assume some sort of steam producing unit. Are bigger pipes needed or more hot water capacity?

I doubt water capacity would be an issue steam has a 1700/1 expansion ratio. The generators should be pretty simple devices too.

A couple of challenges to retrofitting a steam shower into an existing bathroom: running a 220 volt line to the steam generator, and where to put it. It needs about a 2’x2’x3’ space with water and aforementioned electric.

Yup, and it's OK but not great. Was done in late 90s for the original builder/owner and they added quite a lot of aggregates, which it's now releasing. So not very nice underfoot. It's one of those minor niggles that's just not remotely economically justifiable to address.
