We had Costco come out for uv shades and they were laughably expensive. Fun fact about cellular shades, rollers, uv, etc. There are like two companies that make the hardware for pretty much all of them.

My neighbor is putting in a 650 sf mother in law unit . I have a detached garage I converted back when my kids were small and I'm considering tearing it down and building a garage/workshop/apartment unit but after seeing what the city is making him do Im not so sure. The grade beams are 36" with 18" reinforced slab. Fuck thats a lot of concrete.

Gotta be seismic requirement. Santa Cruz was hit hard by the ‘89 quake - the epicenter was in the county.

Yeah less than 20 miles from where we are. Its that and the soils analysis. Still crazy though for a 650 sf single story wood frame. He is right behind me so we know where to go when the big one hits.

has anyone had success replacing the cushion of their sofa? I can spend maybe close to $2k on a stiffer sectional but trying to stay in budget. The sofa seats can be taken out and I imagine restuffed with new foam. Worth it or not?

My preference is to cover up 15’5 of wall space, and the only sectional+love seat combo I feel comfortable paying right now is $1k, which includes shipping and assembly.

The space is the family room with a projector. I don’t spend a lot of time in front of the tv anyways, this is more for guests I reckon.

I’d say worth it, especially if you have a foam supplier nearby. They’ll probably be able to put the covers back on as well.

Our local suppliers for all of that sort of thing are slowly going out of business. I guess people don’t reupholster furniture much anymore.

People don't buy furniture worth reuphostering.

We have a leather sofa that could use some extra cushion. I dated a girl whose dad reupholstered furniture. Seems his shtick was to go bankrupt every couple of years and reopen like those mattress places.

Painted our dining room and entry way while also installing a new light. Almost done repainting the entire house since we moved in 5yrs ago. The old paint made every room darker than it needed to be.

There is an upholsterer right by where I live. Tons of stuff in there, but it has been open as long as I have been there ~12 years.

Our insurer's fire safety unit came out for their annual inspection and, as usual, there are New! Policies! No longer allowed to use mulch or wood chips within 10' of structures, which is fairly fucking annoying as I just put down a bunch around the house. Will have to be removed and replaced with soil. Also now requiring an auto shutoff valve on the gas main, so that's going to cost a bit. Death by 1000 cuts.
