Do you have a picture of that white sofa? Is M. Baughman sofa with rosewood side panels?
I rescued my sofa of the internet it needed Pirelli webbing for under seat support and some leather refurbishing and stitching. Paid 700 shipped from Florida. I am happy with it not sure who is the designer. One day walking in lower Manhattan with my gf I saw my sofa in one of the yappie store's windows. I asked for the price and was floored , they were asking 23 times what I have paid. Made my day.

No pictures of the white sofa, it lives in our memories only (and someone else living room). The Milo Baughman is newly produced, by Thayer Coggin, so the sides are upholstered.

Depends on the efforts one needs to make to get that good looking sofa in the first place. When my wife and I moved in together she brought along this white couch from her last place along with a bed and some other stuff. She planned to replace it with some modern pieces and we bought or I built practically every other piece of furniture in the house. She formulated ideas on what she wanted and I talked her down and suggested to take a slower approach so that we don't wind up buying things to later regret.

Then one day, one of her friends (woman love to trade barbs) called the ugly thing 'ugly' and said that it actually brought down the look of every other piece of furniture in the room....causing her to basically stand hard against replacing that ugly thing for 7 years!

Finally, after 7 years of negotiating, early this year I bought a Milo Baughman sofa with approving nod....and just as I thought I was finally rid of that horror show it lands in the garage where it stayed for another 9 months....until finally I convinced her to let it go. I cheered as a young(er) couple loaded it into their minivan and drove off.

This entire time I endured answering the question of why one would buy a LC2 sofa in custom leather and put it in my study while the living room had the famous white leather couch.

Okay, now when will she let you get rid of that carpeting?

Might I add, the Florence Knoll sofa is actually quite comfortable for us. The key is that it is for sitting--not for anything else. If we ever need to recline, there are other options in the house. And when we do fall asleep on the Knoll, the discomfort reminds us to move to our bed.

Also, that sofa pissed off so many people here for no rational reason, it still brings a smile to my face.

Okay, now when will she let you get rid of that carpeting?

Waiting for the baby on that one, once he can get up and down the stairs on his own doing we'll replace with wood soon after.

Maybe I'm a less vigilant / thougthful parent, but why does that make a difference?

To think of it, I grew up on hardwood floors with all sorts sharp edges around me. Carpets imho will only cause allergies in children.
Also I believe children are far less fragile than parents like to imagine.

Also I believe children are far less fragile than parents like to imagine.

I grew up on hardwood floors as well. Both floors and the staircase of our apartment are hardwood; we never thought to change that because of our daughter.

Who did it piss off? Also, did you ever get that one button seated properly?

If I recall, certain people in their early 30's were put off by the idea of someone in his late 20's spending more on a sofa than they would on a couple pairs of bespoke shoes.

Anyone live with soaped floors?

Currently, our floors are oak--lyed and oiled. Considering re-doing them with a soap finish (after lying first).

We never expected the oil to be particularly durable, but it is more painful to touch-up than expected. I suspect, having lived with soaped furniture, that soaped floors might be easier. Even though they may stain more readily than an oil finish, it seems they would also be easier to clean, touch-up, re-soap, etc.
