Finished digging one of three french drains I need to solve my water issues in my basement and garage. Also got a new post set for a replacement gate as part of the process.

Got some things done around the house taking a few days off post-baby. Cleaned up a room off of our garage that has been a catch all for crap and we got rid of a bunch of things we have just lugged from house to house and don't use anymore. Also replaced some drainage pipes outside and erosion uncovered them and they became damaged. They just drain from the gutters so nothing major in those. Small fixes but ones that I have neglected since we moved in.

Closing on my first house soon. Finally, I think I think this one is going to work out.

Now, I am terrified. But glad I am soon to be able to post on this thread :).

Welcome! It is a great experience buying your first house but also terrifying in that you have a mortgage which is probably the biggest loan of your life.

Was able to get the original installers of our A/C and furnace to correct one of their install mistakes. They installed the units 2 owners before us in 2007 and so I called them hoping that the sticker they left on the furnace meant they installed the units. Long story short, our massive air leak is gone and 2 summers of head aches are fixed. All for the low price of FREE. The company said the install was not up to their standards and apologized for the mistake.

I am beyond happy that this is fixed. I have bitched about it before. Now the A/C feels very cold even with the thermostat set on 73* when we usually have it at 69*. I wonder what sort of energy savings will come from this.

Our recently installed booster fan for the dryer vent stopped working. The troubleshooting consisted of blowing into the tube to see if the pressure switch is working, and if that isn't it, break out the multimeter. FFS.

Are those fans common?

We have one, too. It's working fine (albeit noisily), but I've actually been thinking about taking it out. We had somebody come out the clean the dryer vent shortly after we moved in, and they mentioned those fans not being up to code. My cursory research on the topic seems to confirm that, and the consensus appears to be that they cause more accumulation/fire risk than they prevent.

We don't have one, but the dryer vent is less than 10' long.

I don't have one either. My run is about 10' and I hard piped it. I definitely recommend rigid ducting over flex for the whole run if possible (of course my dryer is in an unfinished basement so there were no aesthetic issues and the run is out in the open).

Yes, Moo, I did blow into it. I could hear the switch click, but no joy.

The fan is required for us because the vent run goes up, across, down, and then across again to reach the outside of the house. The secondary screen is readily accessible and has a window to monitor accumulation. The booster was relatively quiet and apparently quite effective. Running the dryer without it fills the house with the smell (and warm, humid air) of fresh laundry.

Slugs are destroying our petunias on the back patio. i hand picked nearly 50 slugs throughout the day from our 12" petunia pot. Anyone had success with deterring (or killing) these bastards? I set a couple "beer traps" yesterday and awoke to a couple drowned slugs but hoping there's a way to prevent the reproduction too.

The wife and I have decided to sell after all. We had a realtor give us a quick estimate and send some listings in our "current" price range. There are some things we could improve by putting some money into our current home, but quite a few things that we just can't get without moving. The journey begins.
