Got some good news. Before today I had only seen photos from my street from neighbors who had snuck through the cordon.
I went back to sift this afternoon. Nothing inside, but my garden fared far better than it could have.
Irony of ironies that the back hill closest to the forest land didn't burn because we caught embers flying over instead of a fireline. Everything I planted up thete was like....very fire resistant trees and shrubs.

So my question to anyone with any clue on this....how do I keep these plants alive while I rebuild my house?

I have no power and all my sprinkler valves are destroyed as is my main water service.

I'm sure I can get a batter powered controller or something. Any ideas on this greatly appreciated. Insanely excited to see if I could save my garden.
Really sorry to hear about the fires. Folks in the mountains surrounding us got hit hard in 2020.Tragic
Do these trees and shrubs really require additional water? All the established plants I have have done fine through the past drought years without any watering at all.

The conifers and oaks will not. The japanese maples and azaleas will.

Yeah we're only @ 80 ft above sea level here. The water table is probably a lot more accessible

I got an electrician coming tomorrow to put in can lights, some wall lights, switches, dimmers, and replace outlets and plates.

I’m doing four can lights at most per room (fewer in the bedrooms), some downlights and some adjustable. Is there anything I should know about placement? Any rules for how far from a wall the can light should be and how far from other lights? The guy coming tomorrow is an electrician, not a designer.

Also, is it necessary to replace the blue electrical boxes before replacing the outlets? House was built in 76.

Seems like if you don't know where you want your lights, it is premature to have the electrician come out.

I’m not asking whether they should go in corners or the middle; I know what I want lit and what purpose the can lights will serve. I’m asking about things like distance from a wall, whether a light should be near a window, and so on.

Unless it's a code issue and the electrician will know about that just use your common sense. As far as a window goes it does get dark at night and thats when you use the lights.

Anybody here has experience with a crestron home system?

Currently looking at a place that has that. Lighting, shades, audio and I think heating all connected to it.

I’m a bit intimidated. And I work in ffin high tech.

Yearning for spring today (still months away here) so I can see how the garden I made this summer progresses. I realized I never put up any video for anyone who's curious. Don't mind the amateur videography. This was shot late summer, I probably added another 10-20 different conifer cultivars after this. LMK if you can't see the videos, first time for me.
