You’re thinking of Republican rich people. Democrats send the kids to Montessori when they’re old enough.
I worked for this upper class English guy at JP Morgan back in the day. His American wife was quite crunchy and wanted to send their son to a Waldorf school in Connecticut. One of those unstructured programs where the kids are kind of allowed to do anything they feel enthusiastic about. He goes to the first parent teacher conference and the headmistress is like oh we love Tommy he's such a pleasure to have around -- his absolute favorite thing is to do the washing up after lunch. Kid was out of there the next week, he tells me I'm not paying $40K for my boy to be a ******* scullery maid!

New TV Room console, which I think the dog matches fairly well? Might get a second Sonos sub for the symmetric look (and of course better low-end performance, if they ever get their act together and the app actually works again?)

Our preschool director gave us the best ever description of Waldorf when we said we weren't familiar - she said "it's the kind of school where they ask you to dance your name instead of learning to read and write."

I'm glad I'm not NYC middle class and have to worry about $40k daycare in the 80s or whenever Omega had kids.

She wasn't "slagging" them by the way, she said for some kids they were a great choice. She explained why they prefer to hold off on teaching reading and writing and a few other things that sets Waldorf apart. But the "dance your name" was an example of what made it different and obviously not a fit for all children.

As far as educators criticizing educators, it's a weird take. Some schools do a better job than others. I would prefer a person who is helping me select schools to give valuable feedback and by necessity sometimes that's negative. If I remember correctly you criticized Harvard recently, would you look askance at an educator who did the same?

i can admit when i get it wrong . i kneejerked and took your story wrongly but you are right and i apologize .

and i will further agree with you : it's very imho important for educators to be upfront so far as tenor , values , etc and i would appreciate as you do a willingness to make the distinction ... maybe i took the idea of alternative education as a slight ( my own kiddo doesn't go to a waldorf school , we did look into it but not the right direction , but he's been a handful to sort and the pandemic didn't help ) . I should have given your poast the benefit and fwiw I am sorry .

Re: Sonos.

They have indeed ruined the phone based app but the desktop has not been damaged.

I also think Sonos has somehow limited their max volume to some level far below the performance capabilities of their speakers. For almost a decade, I’ve been happy with the soundbar + One + (single) Sub volume levels. It’s been enough to be painfully loud and rattle windows.

These days i crank up the volume to max and i only subtly hear bass lines unless i artificially crank up the bass using the EQ. I’m now considering getting a second Sub too, but i would much prefer that they simply fix their sheet

Quick snap of a portion of the ongoing landscaping project. The end is near, but Jesus projects just take forever to wrap up! I’m happy with the results so far, good thing as it’s been a lot of work! View attachment 2226247

Thanks! I did not use any fabric under the gravel paths. I'm really not a fan of lanscape fabric as weeds will eventually grow into/through it, and then you're really in for some bad times. I know some people recommend putting down fabric or geotextile under gravel paths to prevent migration of the gravel into the dirt, but these aren't going to see heavy traffic and I'm happy enough to refresh the gravel every few years, if need be, to avoid using the geotextile.

Don't have Sonos, but can't you control via a phone web browser like Chrome, and avoid the app all together?
